It was nice to meet all of you this weekend. Unfortunately our issues from Toledo continued to follow us to CMP. We ran hard the first stint on Saturday and then began to lose power at 5500 rpms on the last two laps of that stint. The next driver out had to bring the car in and we began again with the fuel problems.

By the end of the day, we had removed and flushed the gas tank which had lots of rust, replaced the fuel filter and once again replaced the fuel sock. On Sunday we ran into heating issues and blew a radiator hose but managed to get on the track several times. Finally with about 10 minutes left in the race, the clutch went out.

Although we had issues we manage to shake a lot of the issues out of the car. It was very strong on Sunday and I ran a 1.07.712 fastest lap for our team on the weekend. It handled beautifully, we just needed about 30 more horsepower.

I don't know where we finished but the last time we looked, we were about 77 of almost 100 cars. Not bad for only being on the track half of the weekend. I will post pics as soon as I get them from the other guys on the team.

Thanks for everyones support!

Excellent job this weekend! When it comes to LeMons, the real action is in the pits so don't feel bad about not being out the whole time. There were a few other 7's out on Saturday when I was there.

I should have thought about it more but did you have any of the baffle left in the gas tank? Without the baffle there isn't much a fuel sock will do. I did not think about the rust much when you mentioned it. The baffle may also leak on the one side from the rust and cause the issue.

We didn't notice anything missing, by the baffle do you mean the cylinder that the fuel pump sits in? If so, it was still there and looked fine. The inside of the tank didn't look bad either just a lot of rust floating around at the bottom.

Is there a permanent fix to this other than replacing the fuel tank? Maybe some sort of silicon based coating for the inside of the tank? The more I think about it, we will likely continue to have this issue especially if the car sits for a few months while we pull the motor to change the clutch and exhaust system, which had also failed yet again.

By the way, there was a guy that came to our pits while I was out at the track and mentioned a lot of things we could do to the car to improve performance. Something about removing butterflies from the intake manifold, reversing the struts in the front and so on.

So far my searches on this forum have not yielded the same results or have only returned go fast mods for the turbo cars. Does someone have a link to these free mods for the FC non-turbo?

I was that guy that talked to your teammates.

I'd be happy to meet up with you guys sometime and point out a lot of little things you can do to make the car faster on the cheap (as in free or next to free).

Are you still in the Atlanta area? I've been meaning to give you a call but haven't gotten around to it. One of the guys mentioned that you were moving to TN.

I would definitely be interested in talking to you.

Hi Renn

I previously had a Mitsu that had a serious rust problem in the tank (killed 4 fuel pumps, 3 sets of injectors and a dozen filters before we managed to get it all out of the lines once we found the problem - rust is so fine it just clogs everything!)

I sent it off to a local shop and had it sand blasted and after that, never had a problem. Might be worth doing though it can also make holes of any rust that's eaten all the way through the tank. Mine was fine though.

As far as a sealant I believe there are silicon based sealants you can use, as to how well they work with a solvent like petrol, I'm not sure. But definitely getting it sandblasted so you know all the rust is gone would be worth looking into. I believe the shop that fixed it did also seal it somehow, not sure what they used though.
