2 TPS units , neither will read above 9 volts , what am I doing wrong?

I am sure it is user error and not the TPS units.

I tried to set both and got the same max volt reading on both.

I am now getting CODE 12 & 18. Before it was just 12.

my battery eventually died on me before I could get it straight. It was also dark and my wife was yelling at me to come eat .

I also had to stop and go get a decent meter so the car actually cooled down by the time I got back and got it together to test.

car has been driven very little so battery has not gotten a good charge lately.

what do you guys think I am doing wrong?

I have never used a meter before...btw

thanks for the patience

You shouldn't be reading 9v at the TPS...

That little guy only has a 5v input to begin with...

Since you're new with a meter, set it to voltage, put the black (negative) lead on a good ground (the engine should do in this case), and put the red (positive) lead into the pin that the green/red wire is going into (on the harness side of the connector, not the TPS side. With the engine HOT, you should get 1 volt DC at idle (750 rpms). An idle higher than 800 or so may skew results...

so..you are trying to tune the tps or what? the FSM has a way to tune it with a little checker that goes into a plug near the pressure sensor. you can make it yourself with some LED's, wire, and male quick disconnect plugs. my friend and i did this just recently after using an Ohm /multimeter to varify that the resistances the TPS was putting out were correct according to FSM specs.
