ok so its an 88 gxl...
two problems 1 reverse lights come on in 5th... only when clutch is out... and still works normally with reverse i did a clutch job and figured i messed up a wire or something then... my bushing was blown out so i need a new one but i doubt thats the probelm... not really worried cause as soon as i get my truck driving the drivetrain is coming out... and how important is the exhaust ground? my brother missed that bolt on the clutch job as well... lol

Burnt switch or switch is miss-wired.

Did you have tranny or clutch work done recently?

The exhaust grounds serve two functions:
1) Give the oxygen sensor a good voltage ground reference.
2) Help control corrosion by reducing electrolysis.

thanks for the help. yeah i just did a clutch job a lil while ago... but i all i did was unplug the wires.. and im pretty sure ( was a while ago) they could only go one way... but who knows... just figured i should know so when i get a fix it ticket i have an idea of what to fix
