2.5 or 3 Inch RB Turboback?

If I could buy an older style 2.5" RB turboback for a much cheaper price than a 3" system, would it be worth it if i'm under a budget? How much of a difference is there between the two as far as sound/performance goes? Also, with a 2.5" system, would I still need a ported wastegate?

As far as I know.. ALL the Racing Beat full turbo back systems have always been 3" turbo back. The 2.5" down pipe and mid pipe are seperate items they sell that do not come in a turbo back kit. Someone could of pieced it together that way using all Racing Beat parts, but like I said, their "turbo back exhaust" is 3" (actually a bit bigger then 3"). Any type of high flow straight through exhaust is going to give you more boost and will require a FCD and fuel mods. And YES you'll need to port the wastegate if you want to be able to control your boost. Some people get away with a hi flow exhaust FCD and stock intake without extra fuel. but I wouldn't risk it.

I don't understand how there is a true RB turboback if its only 2.5". I thought they came exclusively in 3". It could be 2.5" DP and 2.5"cat-back but then its not a turboback.

I say you get the 3", RB's website says +49hp with the 3" system and well the cat replacement pipe combo with presilencer adds 26hp, (and that is if your getting rid of your cat). You can add the 6hp you get from the cat-back and your hp incrase would only come out to 32 or so, that is if your getting rid of that cat.

So in the end I say go for the 3" system if you want more hp and the 2.5" if you just want the sound and looks.
