Question 2 2nd gen questions...

hi everyone,

I've decided to sell my prelude and get an RX7. I really like both the 2nd and 3rd gen's, but the 3rd gen's are a little out of my range.

I found a nice little '89 Turbo II or sale near me. here's the info he left in auto trader:

Mazda rx7 Turbo II; 30000 miles on rebuilt motor with 3mm hurley racing seals. Full silicone hose job, blow-off valve, and 16in enkie rims with good tread on tires. Everything works (a/c, heater, kenwood radio with remote) New oil pressure gauge and pillar gauge pod. Non- smoker and fluids checked every day. Call or email for questions, more info, or more pics.

The car has a total of 133,000 miles on it. I figured this would be a good learning car, and something that would leave me room to mod.

Does this sound like a good buy, or a rip off?

on to the 2nd question...

how does the 2nd gen hold up material wise? I've read tons of stuff about engine reliability, but no one talks about the little things like interior pieces breaking, fading, or tearing.

any information would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
-Chris

Lots of interior pieces break, especially the stereo bezel and defroster ducts. The outside door window seals and sun roof seals only last about 2 years in the sun. It's not really all that bad, as the important mechanical components hold up very well. You can price the interior parts here:

What to look for (NA is pretty much the same as the TII):

Plastic and the sun..

Texas and California (where I live) have in common lots of sun. As such, plastic things site on top or near top of your dash like the defrost vents get brittle and crack from 13 years of the sun beating on them.

The good news is factory replacements are easy to get and to install if your so inclined. So, other than maybe cracked dash vinyl, don't worry about it.

Sounds like the guy knows hit RX7's, so had potential of being a good deal if the price is fair.

Good luck. Hope you get the chance to join this Wankle community.
