since you only need the socket Twice,why not just go ahead and Buy it then Sell it to someone You know....then Borrow it when you need it ..(recoup a bit of the "expense"..lol)

I'm not saying that $30 is a lot of money; I'm just saying that $30 is a lot for just one socket.

Anyway, I've got a socket now, so me and a couple of friends are going to give it a shot with teh bar. If I can't get if off, then I guess I'm gonna owe somebody a few tacos.

yes, be careful make sure you keep the bar away from your nose and be careful what you will fall on when the breaker snaps or the socket slips off.

trust me the socket will get used again. I've used mine at least 4 times and have lent it to friends who've made good use of it too.

Getting the nut off really wasn't that hard without air tools. I had a sturdy peice of metal with holes cut into it already that I bolted into a couple places on the flywheel to keep it from spinning and went to town on the nut.

I got my socket for 5$ by luck accually. I had to have an adapter for it, so I picked it up and put it on the the socket picked up a bunch o other tols and went to the counter and had it rung up.

Got home looked at the receipt and they only charged me for the adapter.

3/4 drive rachet with a 3 foot piece of 2" galvinized pipe. Like an idiot he was pulling it downward and the rachet snapped. And the rest was history..He even cracked the first socket in half..

Air tools rock. I just plunged myself into debt to finance my new tools, and I still am loving it. However, sometimes you have to go low-tech. I had to get the bolt off a Honda crankshaft pulley, and the impact would not budge it (a 900 ft./lbs gun mind you). After attacking it with a breaker bar, and a pipe attached to the breaker bar...three busted sockets later, that sucker came off! Now to head for Sears, get these things replaced.

All done.

Two friends on the motormounts, one on bar bolted to the main pulley, and me working the nut. Took probably about 15 minutes.

Though I do want some nice air/electric tools...

And a lift.

sorry i;m an *** and i dont like reading long *** threads.....did you do a clutch swap? yes it took forever to find the socket...then when i got it i poped that sucker off with a mac air gun...one shot of that gun broke anything loose. I was lucky enough to use the mobil gas station down the street from my house they had eveything i needed it took about 10 hours to do the hole thing.....about 3 hours trying to get the right socket size..no one would answer their phones so i had to guess and i guess worng 3 times before i got it right....got it off took the flywheel to get spun and they told me i need a new one...called japan2la ahd he hooked it up with a fd flywheel and that took about 45 mins but started at 1pm ended at 8:30 or 9 pm did the hole thing by myself with help in the end from 1984se.

No. I have the motor and trans out of the car and I'm taking the motor apart and salvaging what I can. Plus, I'm just taking it apart for the hell of it.
