What is it all of a sudden?...This question has been asked several times in the past 7 days. As always, searching before you ask is the best bet for finding a quick answer.

Rotorhead: I have a 91 tranny in a 84 GSLSE.
Yes, it will work pretty easily. The tranny itself is identical, although the FB/FC trannies have different gearing. You just have to take the tailshaft off the FC tranny and put the old FB tailshaft in it's place. This is because of the tranny mount being different between the different cars.
One thing though-the S5 trannies have a harmonic balancer on them, and you have to get this removed before you can use it with an FB. I had to take mine to the Mazda dealership to have it done, since not even a tranny specialty shop knew how to get it off. S4 trannies don't have the balancer, so you don't have to worry about it.
I prefer the S5 tranny since I do a lot of highway driving and the fifth gear keeps RPMS low at highway speeds. Just imagine the gas mileage you get with the old gearbox when your secondaries are ALWAYS open at highway speeds, even when you aren't going that fast.
Oh yeah, don't forget to swap out the speedometer gears too.
The tranny will NOT work on SA's though.

yes it will.
what you need to do is swap the tail half of the transmission
put your 2nd gen shifter/tail half of the tranny and put it on your 1st gen tranny and it bolts right up, its just trickey doing the shift linkage, just takes some wiggle. they 12a na uses the same flywheel/clutch/starter as the 13b na. 1st gen tranny has shorter 1st 2nd and 3rd gears in comparison to the 2nd gen but they have the same ratio for 4th and 5th
