1991 insane idling issues

I just bought my first 7 yesterday and it has a major idling problem. Its a 1991 N/A 5spd convertible with 147k miles. It idles anywhere from 1500-4500 rpm sitting at a stop light, I'm talking about it jumping between the two whil just sitting there. Im so confused because I have never worked on a rotary before and I don't know where to start. Can you people drop some knowledge on me?

Maybe a vacuum leak somewhere? Maybe try adjusting the TPS.

read the factory service maual, and check / adjust every thing. a idle that high is a combination of things. make shure theres slack in the cables. my issue what that some one adjusted the stop screw improperly, among other small things like TPS. your tps may make it rev or run a little higher but not much. should be set after every thing else.
just search for the FSM. theres many posted online.

My idle got stuck at 5000 rpm because my cruise control got messed up. Though if the idle is changing thats probably not the problem. As the others suggested check for vacuum leaks etc.
