Unhappy 1990 Vert, tranny or engine dead????

Just purchased a 1990 convertible for parts or possible fix up. Dragged it home from the auction and found the drive shaft twisted off at the tranny (u-joint broke) and the shifter rod section of the tranny (just above the drive shaft)housing broke off almost like the drive shaft was flopping around and hit it???-the cast is broke but it still can shift with alot of pushing and pulling, a definate tranny replacement required. Clutch pedal feels like mush...can feel no movement hardly at all. Now when I moved up to the engine to check it out I found that the oil looks clean and there is water in the radiator but the starter will not budge the engine, click click click...and I tried turning it over by hand by removing the fan and using a big break over bar but it feels like it is Locked up tighter than a nuns legs. Is it possible or has anyone seen a tranny lock up or a clutch fail where it will not allow the engine to turn over? Does anyone know of anything else to check that I am overlooking? I am hoping that the engine is not smoked!!! Thanks in advance
