1990 TII factory stereo question

Hi,, as most of you know I just got my TII yesterday. The guy I got it from had all aftermarket stereo stuff in it. He put the original stereo back in it, but he said he removed the factory amps and I didnt get them when I bought the car... I noticed that the factory cd player still works, so I would like to figure out how to hook up speakers to it. Do all the speakers in the car work off the factory amp? There are no speakers in the car, but im going to put them back in there tonight. Will any of them work without the amp? Thanks guys!!

I believe the factory external subwoofer amp is below dash on the passengers side. If he re-used the OEM wiring harness with the aftermarket speakers, he probably just "plugged together" the connectors that went into & out of the OEM amp (eliminating the AMP).

Remember you got 6 speakers, so 2 of them (door subs) are powered by the OEM external AMP and 4 by the internal AMP on the head unit / radio.

If he didn't cut-up the OEM wiring harness, I know www.crutchfield.com sells all the harness adapters for aftermarket speakers & head units. They also sell adapters to put 6.5" speakers in the rear towers and "q-forms" to "seal up" replacmenet rear strut tower & under the dash speakers- so they don't distort.

If you have clearance issues with deeper aftermarket speakers on the doors, I think they sell spacers as well.

So, the dash speakers and the rear speakers should still work correct? Thanks!

if you arent lookgin for a high end system or anythgng id advise you to get a new cheap headunit and speakers from circut city or somesuch...will prolyl sound much better then 15 year old speakers powered by the stock head....wont cost more then 200 all together, and will likely look pretty

yeah, its a factoty cd/tape combo. The tape deck wont pop out the tape thats in it, but the cd player works great. The car is in real good stock condition so I want to leave it that way. I would rather have a bone stock TII than to put different wheels, body kits, etc on it. Thanks all for your help!
