1990 GXL Not Getting Enough Power

7 months ago, I received a 1990 GXL that had been sitting for 6 years in a field. Since then the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuses, clutch assembly, slave cylinder, shifter, pedal assembly, battery, and starter have been replaced. About a month ago the car started for one second before dying. Before this the car started and idled perfectly, but now, even on a full battery, it cranks much slower than it used to, so it won't even get close to starting anymore. All of the fuses have been checked and none are blown. The cars fuel lines have been checked and it is getting fuel, too. I'm not great with electrical stuff and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why it cranks so slowly. Here's a link to a video of it cranking: https://youtu.be/LUE9GinD4NU

Thanks in advance.

If it's cranking slow on a new battery, I'd suspect a bad connection at the starter or at the battery. If it has the original battery terminal clamps, try replacing them with new ones.

Next I'd remove, thoroughly clean, and apply dielectric grease to all the underhood grounds and the connections on the starter.

The ground locations you should probably "service" are roughly located:

- at the bottom of driver's side strut tower
- near the starter
- under the intake manifold on top of rear rotor housing
- on top of the transmission bellhousing (small black wire going to firewall, clean the firewall connection too.)
- at the rear of the driver's strut tower under trailing ignition module

Note: these are where most of the important underhood grounds are on an S4 N/A. Your car might differ slightly.

Good luck.

Awesome, I'll make sure to service all of those spots. Thanks a lot, appreciate it.
