theres so great inro there ^ thanks...
thanks ice blue...but i think those welds i did there were OK at best. i did those after i been TIG welding for about 1 month. i am far better now and have passed my TIG (GTAW) certification test. although the welds there are sound with full penetration and are plenty strong. i can do much better now. |

Your engine has a 8 year 100k mile warranty. If it needs one get one for free man.
More on topic, i ran 5w 30 in my ren once back when i first bought it and the car seemed bogged down in midrange even when it had been going down the highway all day. 5w 20 feels diff to me for some reason, and i just switched to full synth and i love the smell it puts off when you really hammer down and burn a little off :D... speaking of, i think its time for an oil change |
any updates?
|
kind of...
i have converted the car to right hand drive. did some suspension, wheels, and brake upgrades. along with a fuel system. the renesis i have is the weaker 4 port and im kinda holding out for a 6 port. so i cant design much further until i have that motor. so im pretty much at a stand still until i have the 6 port reni... |
I also think low end will be hurted quite much when keeping the aux ports open all the time.. will you just put the sleeves in in the open position? (6 port renesis)
if you're running a standalone anyway it would be possible to the stock intake manifold, and then control the sleeves and other valves with some free output singals..? Another way would be to "stage" the ITB's, so let the outer ones only open past half thorllte or so, but this way it would be most optimal to have the outer ones as close as possible to the ports.. then only put full throttle at reasonable rpm's so you won't hurt the torque down low.. Here in this topic are some pics of my engine, we put a first gen front cover and waterpump.. http://www.nopistons.com/forums/Carb...on-t70981.html too bad we have too much other work to continue this one.. curious how the dizzy/coils will like 9k rpm:) |

one of the reasons that techs at dealerships just swap out motors is because of time. warranty will only cover a certain amount of time, so why would the mechanic care about tearing the engine apart? it is all business at dealerships. if a tech took the time to do a tear down, he looses money. let's say warranty engine replacements pay 10 hours, that means he has to remove and replace the engine and have it running in 10 hours to break even. if he takes longer he loses money because warranty won't pay him more. if it were a cash engine where there was no warranty then the labor rate would change in favor of the tech, he could charge more hours and cover his time spent.

i was going to sell the 4-port so i can find a 6 port. but i recently purchased the 6 port plates. so now im just going to swap the 4 port plates for the 6 port ones...
i could sell you the 4 port plates. also the e-shaft and stationary gears. PM me if you interested. didnt you want the mounts also? |
DO you have any pics of all this work. Sounds like the car has some great potential.
|
yes, first few pages...
|
I'm very excited to hear more on this project. whens the next update?
|
well, after not touching the motor for a few months because i didnt want to use the 4 port. i wanted the higher power 6 port. i am now pleased to say i have the 6 port plates.
so i will be rebuilding the renesis here shortly and adding the 6 port plates. i also started on my oil pan. so that should be done soon enough. many other projects got in the way. and this one took a backseat seeing how i didnt have the 6 port plates. but now i do! |
how much extra power do you really get from the 6 port compared to the 4?
|
factory they 4 port is rated at 198 and the 6 port is 238, i believe. so about 40 HP. wich is pretty damn big difference..
|
Its great to see people take on these unque projects. Good luck to you and cant wait to see the progress and the finished good.:)

Yeah, I don't know why people have to announce they subscribed.
Do people know it is possible without actual posting a response? |

Posting that you've subscribed alerts the (usually) O.P. that aside from all the peeps that want to point out where they've made an error, there are some that, while they might not feel they've got anything to contribute to the thread, are still interested in the build, or problem, or fix. It's a way of saying, "hey, I appreciate you taking the time to explain/photograph/document your fix to a problem I've searched the forums for days to find an answer to," while only using one word. Or maybe they're just trying to increase their post count. :dunno: ~j |
^LOL! You guys are reading into this too much. But yes, saying "subscribed" is a great way to let the OP know that you are digging what he's doing.
Without further ado... SUBSCRIBED!!! |
"NOT SUBSCRIBED"!!! But I'm still interested in following this!
|
If you can do this swap and have it run good, I will definitely look into swapping one into my FB! :) I had wanted to do this a while back, but everyone was like "but that's just a myth!" Then you're like, "nooo its REAL!"
http://img1.ifilmpro.com/resize/imag...td/2911098.jpg But seriously, nice work! |
subscribed* lol...
a friend of mine is putting one into hos 1st gen. he alreadfy has his oil pan made and is also using the 12a front cover. but hes going to use the stock manifolds. but adapt most everything else... my oil pan is half made. i'll post pics tomorrow or the day after. it feels good to be working on it again... |
Ive heard a lot of assumptions but could anybody let me know which cars exactly had the 4 and the 6 ports? some people Ive asked said there was only a difference when it was a manual or automatic. some people say that it was different years.
