1989 Turbo II Air Pump Removal Problem...help!
I removed my Air Pump and AVC as per the directions on 1300cc.com, blocked off the air hole in the air box, put on a block off plate on the AVC and the hose that goes to the cat (removed). I also blocked off the 3 vacuum hoses.
The problem is that when I start the car it seems like there is an air intake leak. The car starts, but backfires when you give it gas and let go (every time). The car also stops running if you let off the gas.
It sounds like an intake leak, but everything checks out.
Would there maybe be a leak through the blockoff plates? (not enough gasket goop??).
-Thank you!

yea...
Yea I guess I will do that.
Problem is it won't run long enough for me to do that lol
Looks like I will need to double team this one.
Is it at all possible that I just didn't put enough gasket goop on it and its leaking from there?
Also just for curiosity sake, where does that hole (with the blockoff plate covering it) where the AVC was connect to? Directly to the intake manifold?

Bah
Grab the tb with your hand and open it and spray carb with the other
Or jam a screw driver in the tb assembly. Yes its possible. The problem I see with rtv sealant is when you tighten it, it always squirts out. What I usually do is put the plate against it, but dont torque it down. I leave it like that for about 30 min then tighten it. Gives the stuff I use enough time to dry and actually keep some on the gasket surface.

uh-huh
Yup...
Man I thought this was going to be so easy to!
Oh well, only took me 4 hours to tear the whole things apart anyway so I can't complain.
I will just spray carb fluid all over it in the morning.
(If I spray in CARB fluid and it sucks it in, how will that effect the idle?)
