1988 Rx-7 questions
hello.
My names Josh.
I'm 19yrs old.
Work on Ford diesels *rolls eyes*
Anyways, I have a couple questions for anyone willing to help me out a wee bit.
Alrighty now.
I came across a 1988 Mazda RX-7.
5 speed.
Convertible.
Has a relatively new (63k 0n it) Mazda 13b Rotary engine.
New clutch changed 7,500 miles ago.
New starter, alternator, and battery.
Claims oil changed religously (was his fathers car, but he needs to get rid of it since his father passed).
Odometer reads 245,433
Has slight paint chips.
$2,500
I have'nt driven it yet, but just from exterior appearance and what the guy has typed down on the windshield (along with a CarFax reprt & KBB value which is $3,500) it seems like a decent little ride.
I'm really in debate as to whether or not to buy it as a 2nd car to play around with.
What are this cars strengths?
Weaknesses?
Pros.?
Cons.?
Its a sweet LOOKING little car, so I hope its a sweet running little car.
I just no NOTHING about Mazda rotary engines.
(All my knowledge lies in Ford/International 7.3 & 6.0ltr diesel engines)
Do they still use a "traditional" tranny & rear end, or is that replaced by some crazy Mazda part that only cooperates with the Roatry engine?
Thanks, fellas.

i got mine for about 1/3 of what you paid with 130k on original motor and newer clutch etc etc.
But if the car has been maintained properly and not abused to hell it should hold up for quite a while. Rev the motor before buying it .. all the way up to redline and see if there is any blow by. Regardless, first thing to get done is oil change and change plugs. Unless you know hte person personally. Anyway good luck and enjoy it .. i lovemine !
