1988 RX-7 Convertible SubWoofer box

OK, I couldn't find a design for a sub to fit into my RX-7 without loosing the spare tire or trunk space, so I made one.
I'll put two pics here for posterity...
Rest of the pictures are on my Facebook at : http://tinyurl.com/rx7woofer
and video of the box before installing at: http://www.youtube.com/untiedmusicstudio

Heh - thanks for the comments guys, I expected to be laughed off the forum

The 8" woofer is a no-name that came as a kit off ebay...lets see if they have more (it was a store)...search for this item number: 330354989344

It says on the site it's an Acoustic Research woofer, but no name on the unit. Wiring panel is Cerwin Vega (probably surplus) and looks new. Price is $27.50 so I figured I couldn't go wrong

It doesn't have a mountain of volume, but I don't like that anyway, just wanted something to add the kick missing from the door speakers. At highway speeds it's only barely noticable, but slower it's great (this is a vert after all so the interior is noisier than a hard-top).
Actually I only just got it put into the vehicle and haven't re-hooked it up yet since I blew the amp in the head unit (JVC KD-HDR1). Just bought a Jensen 75W->4 ohm 4-channel amp instead of replacing the head unit, so hope to get it all together today/tomorrow.

Thanks for looking!!

Emory

I couldn't much bass out of my front either. This is what I ended up doing.

I'll repost mine.

It does alright. and it's big enough for it. but on the smaller size. Sure I lost my spare.. but there are two other places for it in the trunk. If I need to carry it.

Well I've gotten a chance to listen to this for 3 days now (I drive an hour each way to work) and OMG I'm SO HAPPY! When I hooked it up before, I hadn't completely glued/sealed the box together and was worried it wouldn't sound right. No worries! Now that it's tight the sound is clean, plenty loud enough for me, and with plenty of headroom to spare. The sub channel vol on the head unit (JVC KD-HDR1) goes to 8 and I generally only keep it on 4! I bought a new Jensen 4-channel 75W->4ohm amp ($63 +$0 shipping from buy.com!) for the door spkrs, so the system is tri-amped at this point - I'm using the amp in the head unit for the headrest spkrs - I may change that over to use the other channel in the Jensen (I thought I'd blown the amp in the JVC but apparently not). My boss who owns a 2005 Corvette was blown away by the sound

I've got some good recording equipment (I run a studio) so I'll drop a mic line down there and record the interior just for grins tonight

hey I'm in the process of building a similar set up although not quite as big I dont think.. more like Yeti's box.. How did you mount it in there? Is it just fit right into the hole or did you screw into the body?

Mine's just stuffed in there. It fits quite tight and doesn't rattle at all.

Thanks for looking!
