86-88 = Series 4 FC, Clutch type LSD
89-91 = Series 5 FC, Viscous type LSD

The stock clutch type LSD is a one way as far as i know, so it is not the best, it will be fine to learn in, but i suggest you invest in a decent 2 way lsd, cusco/kaaz etc and some stiff springs like tein if you wanna progress.

I hear the Viscous type LSD in the Series 5 is known to slip at high RPM = bad for doriftoooo

hope that helps, someone else should clear that up for ya
Cheers, Bryan

EDIT: A decent 2 way will cost you around $1k AUD.. which is what, $7-800 USD? i dunno you americans crazy ways..

better off with a kaaz 1.5 way IMO. more drivability for it and still drifts easy. Clutch type is also the way to go since its cheaper to rebuild

get the 2 way. if you're gonna blow 800 dollars on an lsd, do you wanna have to sell it in two years when it's holding you back? 2 way is significantly better than 1.5. Also, driveability is fine. you hear some clunk when you are doing tight turns and when moving slow, but its fine. its drives fine in the rain and snow too, just take it slow and dont punch around any turns.
