1988 Convertible - bringing back to life - an unstore story.

Hola,

Just got a 1988 Convertible, black top on fading black paint with worn gray interior.

Got it from a couple whose son left it as a project when he went away to school. I'm not exactly sure why or how it was left to where it's non-running, but they report it has not run in 3 years. The battery is dead, so haven't turned it over, but that's probably a good thing until some steps are taken to get it ready. Technically I bought this car as-is and not running. This is my story of the unstore.

For the record, I am appreciative of the Improperly Stored part of the unstore.htm (http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/unstore.htm) and that's my plan of action. I've heard recommendations to put automatic transmission fluid in the cylinders overnight for restoring the seals. Any word on that?

I have some time to get it going; they've given me a couple weeks to get everything together. So hopefully it leaves there under its own power. Speaking of power, it's N/A, 5-speed with the .

I'm sure it will be nice to meet you all over the course of this unstore and my ownership of this car. Have a good evening!

Steve

dont try to start it, put some ATF of MMO in the rotors, turn it by hand a few times, put a little more in, and let it sit

drain fuel, etc..

from what i've read, ATF is not good because it eats through the rubber seals (slowly)

I have always used MMO, but people have been using ATF for a long time, I would not worry about it

it wont be sitting in there for years, you will let it sit a day or two, start the car, run it like hell, then drain the oil and change the plugs

I'll see what MMO runs since I already have ATF but here's hoping! I wish I knew more about these cars to see if there was something obvious
