1987 RX-7 GXL sell, part or hold? (testing the waters)
This is a long winded post, Beware! lol
I am going to be leaving the country soon and will be gone for at least a year and need to make a decision on the disposition of my 87 GXL Rx-7. My problem is what to do with the car. Right now it is in a garage in Baltimore, MD. I cant leave it there while i am gone and i am debating whether to sell, part-out or maybe find a place to store it (the cost of which may not be worth it).
It was going to be a project car for me, but all i have gotten done is most of the electrical repairs (resoldering old cold solders mostly with some part replacement) new tires and someother minor things. I was going to keep it stock. I ended up moving around to much and never got the time to do anything. I am in California right now, it is registered in Kentucky and it is parked in Baltimore, MD, so you see it is hard to do anything with it. LOL Possibly when i get back from Iraq i will have the time and the money to do something with it. I DONT KNOW!
So if anyone can give me an idea of how much it may be worth to someone, in whole or in parts or if they know of a cheap storage area around Baltimore i would greatly appreciate the help.
Yes i am trying to see if i could make a buck or two off it or if its worth it to hold on to and work on in the future.
The car is NOT cherry! it is red though...haha 1987 GXL (non-turbo...sorry) It has a dent in the left front fender(not big), the hood has been sanded and primered(you all know how some of the RX7 clearcoats flaked and pealed, it happenned to this one) it has a few dings and chips in a few places, needs suspension work(shocks and struts), needs a new catylitic converter and some TLC. Last but not least it has over 185,000 miles.
Sounds like a dream right? lol Everything works on it though. Engine runs good, all electrical works (wipers, lights, power windows, power sun roof. heater and AC...), it hasnt overheated on me, doesnt smoke, interior is in good shape(some plastic needs to be replaced), master cylinder is fairly new, i have a new clutch slave cylinder for it, tires are new(maybe a couple hundred miles on them) I am trying to remember everything about it but i havent even seen it for 6 months. If i can get pictures i will post them.
Thanks for any input you can give me.

when are you leaving for Iraq? and how much would you want to part with the car in a whole.....in the future im planning a manual swap with the lsd... if its not too much i might be able to buy it before you leave.....ps i think you should sell it lol j/k...if i were you i would sell it and get a new one when you get back. and keep it in the state you are living in lol.

To give you an idea, these cars usually sell (in running/driving condition) for $1000-2000, and you'll have a bit of a harder time selling such a car in the dead of winter. As for a partscar, these usually go for $200-500 depending on condition, location, and the buyer's need for it.

Thanks for the info! It is a starting point and yes i understand it will be hard now that its winter. Beamer: if i were still in Kentucky it would be easy to make a deal with you. Problem is... Time! I will be leaving for Texas in 3 weeks( 21 Feb, 05), i'll be there for 2 or so weeks then on a plane to "Happy Land". lol I will see if i can get someone to handle the car while i am gone, but i dont count on it. I should be back in Baltimore around the 14th till the 20th of February, so maybe i can make a quick deal with someone.
Yes i know it really is going to be hard, but i will make something happen!!
Forgot, if you have serious inquiries contact me at: troymcclory@yahoo.com
Thanks again.
