I'm looking into purchasing an FC as I miss my old one dearly.
The one I'm looking at, is said to have no power steering, but power "assist," I asked the owner what exactly that was and he said just a different system that does similar things to power steering. Or works similar to it, I guess you could say.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Is this an actual system or some janky rigged system?
How reliable is it? How similar is it to normal powersteering?

Excuse me if there is a thread covering this. I can't search from my phone and I currently have no Internet at home.

um, technically the stock system is a 'power assist'. I wouldn't think someone would put an aftermarket system in, so I would say its probably the stock power steering system.

 

Have you taken a look under the hood yet? I'd wager the owner just doesn't know what he's talking about.

 

Or reading it out of the manual or some place with specs of cars. Probably does hav some "term" mazda used to call their system. I'd look in my manual but to lazy to go out to the garage. I spend enough time in their fixing the RX LOL.

 

Ya there's power and no power, that's it. Maybe he read the words "power assist" somewhere. Test drive the car to verify. Power steering will be obvious at a stop or low speeds. It'll be 1 finger vs. 2 arms.
