Talking S4 turbo in a S5 car...

I should be picking up my TII soon! I'm pretty excited about it. Its just a parts car because of no title and the fact that the windshield is busted in and the interior is ruined. I don't think it runs and it has been sitting in a field for awhile. Best part about the car is that it is FREE!

Anyways...

Now here is my question. I have a S5 N/A and I would like to convert it to turbo. Will the S4 turbo be able to work with the S5 engine? What exactly am I going to have to do? I know that alot of the sensors in the S4 are mechanical and the S5 are electrical. What exactly am I gonna need or is it even possible?

Thanks,
Mason

Mechanically, the S4 turbo will bolt right up to the S5 N/A block. The problem is the intake will be in the way, so you'll either have to use spacers to move the turbo out, or discard the NA intake and move to a turbo intake.

Of course, if you move to the turbo intake you'll need to port it to match the block. It would also be helpful to have the turbo ECU, although you can get away with an SAFC-II. You will also need a new exhaust, and the Turbo throttle cable if you change the intake.

In other words, it's not easy and this has been covered. Please try searching.

rotors have a higher compression on the n/a than a turbo motor. I would switch the whole engine out and put that turbo motor in it.

research it aaroncake has a lot of good info. You can do an NA to turbo or put the turbo motor in the NA either way it requires a lot of reading up and researching

I've searched around somewhat and I'm always reading stuff here in the 2nd Gen forum. I havn't seen anything about using the S4 turbo with the S5 engine. Which ECU would I use? I'm gonna assume the S5 turbo ECU. Who makes the spacers or would I have to custom make them? Which intake is better for flow anyways? The turbo or N/A? I would assume the turbo intake. Now about the compression. I read the thread the other day about using S5 stuff on the S4 engine. Would it be reasonable using some things off the S5 if I swapped the entire S4 engine in?

I'm just trying to figure out what my best option is.

Back to searching I guess... *sigh*

Thanks,
Mason

I think the S5 na compression is really high, like 9.7:1 I believe. This would be awesome if you can controll detonation. A front mount IC is a must and get yourself some TII injectors.

I'm assuming the spacer your talking about is for the turbo so it fits with your s5 intake right? check the faq and aaron cakes website on his na-turbo conversion, he shows how to make the spacer.
Your going to want to defenitly port the wastegate if you have a free flowing exhaust, or else you'll get boost creep and then detonation with that kind of compression.

matching the turbo intake with your block, that leads me to a question of my own..
