1986 Rear End
I was under my car yesterday, taking care of my filler neck issue.
I seem to have a slight vibration in the back, the drive shaft I just had new U-joints installed and it balanced, so I know it's not the shaft. I had already replaced the factory shaft after I drove the car a while due to vibration, with one that can have the U-joints replaced, but those U-joints had lasted maybe 6 months before they started to go, so with the U-joints going & the leaking pulsation damper I parked the car.
Now my question: How much play is the ring & pinion suppose to have ? It has more than I think it should have, and think that's where the vibration is coming from.
Is there a known issue with these third members ?

My Porsche 914 has the 5 speed, which is a project 2nd down on my list.
My current project is my 67 XR7 GT Mercury Cougar. Engine spec's before it was parked with a rod knock in 1983.
390
428 SCJ Heads
Offy Port a Sonic
Cam: Old Greg Foreman-Gus Davis Grind .612" lift, Dur 312*-258@.050
2 1/8" Hooker's
Built C-6, 3,500 Stall
Locker 4:57
I had consolidated all my storages to help save money and decided to work on this long over due project as the money allows. So the funds from the sale of my RX7 will go to this project.
Here's my car after 30 years in storage. Of course you can see the RX7 in the background.
The Exhaust, Hooker 2 1/8" adjustable drag headers with ground clearance issues.
Here's my 427 side oiler block, acid dipped, decked & squared and fresh bore to 4.250.
Here's my Ford 427 Sidewinder Intake, that I had to have the carburetor stud holes time serted, and the carb pad faced, so it's now ready to go.
427 Crank that I've had the counterweights bull nosed and knife edged. Actually, this is a special crank it has 2 additional counter weights off the center main.
