Would a 1986 n/a tranny fit in a 91? Or does it need to be from a 88and up?

The tranny will fit but the tranny mount is different. You have to use the S5 tranny mount. Other than that the tranny will fit.

Yeap. just swap the mount over. If u take a close look on the the s5 mount look different than the s4. Switch the mount and ill be good.

Uh.. No.

You have to use the Y-bracket and Crossmember from the same year of transmission [they bolt to the body exactly the same but totally differently to the transmission]

I got the trans and the place where the Y mount goes isn't there. It is flat actually. Did i get the wrong trans for the car? Everything bolted right up perfectly except for the mount.

If you can take picture that would be more helpful.

Like I said, you need the "Y-bracket" for an S4 [86-88]
That right there is the only meaningful difference between the S4/S5 transmissions. S4 bolts on vertically, S5 diagonally.

Yeah. I got it. Took me awhile to track it down. >.< It like a long Y that does bolt under the trans. The one from my old trans bolts on the sides of it. but I got it now. Hopefully I can mount it up sometime this weekend. Thanks for the info guys.

I don't mean to deviate from the main topic or thread jack but are the clutches different between n/a series 4 and n/a series 5?

Edit: The only reason I ask is because I'm in the same boat with a transmission swap except it's S4 engine and clutch, S5 transmission.
