175,000 Miles On Original Motor???
I have a 1990 gtu. I dont know any history on the car but the odometer says 175,000 miles. car runs, ports are clogged and the idles been messed with and the screw for the throttle stop so car idles weird and bogs out at the top of gears. What could the bogging out be? The car wouldnt start today just cranks and cranks so i'm going to delood it and check compression. Is it possible the motor could of lasted 175,000 miles or was it prob. rebuilt? Also has some oil leaks but dont know where. a lot of white smoke when i first start it but its not loosing collant?

An engine lasts as long as it lasts. There's no real answer to your question. Longevity will depend on things like maintenance, how it's driven and the disposition of the rotary gods moment to moment. Some of those things you can control and some you can't.
Start digging in to the engine bay and electronics and straighten things out. Search in this forum for info about reliability modifications. Clean out those ports (it's easier than you think) and learn how to do the water trick. Clean your electrical connections and grounding points. Clean, clean, clean.
You didn't mention that white cloud in your other thread.
You need to find out what it is (after you next get the car started, that is.) When the car starts, if you see that cloud get your butt out of the car, hustle back there and take a big whiff. It's going to smell like either gas or a sickly-sweet smell. Gas is ok - you're flooding her. Sickly-sweet is bad - you're leaking coolant internally and a rebuild is in your not-too-distant future.

Or it coudl be condinsation. People post and say they are getting white smoke on startup and then it goes away after a while which would 9 times out of 10 be condinsation.
I personally think that our engines fail because of the 3 piece design. If mazda only used 2 piece to begin with, I think these engines would last over 250K miles.
