150 $ exhaust
Is it possible to buy or make a 150$ exhaust system from the header back That is decent? I need it to last for about a year and i don't want it to be too crappy. I read that the RX's get really hot so do I need to have stainless piping? Let me know please, Thanks.

Well I need it to pass inspection. What happened is I just bought the car and the exhaust is rotted out. it was broken right before the main cat. therefore all thats on there right now is the header and the two mini cats. I live in NY and they do emissions with obd2 I know this is too old but do they do other emissions tests for older cars?

get another cat from a junk yard and buy a 18" glass pack and turn down from an exhaust shop and have them weld it up, i think as long as the exhaust is turned down right before the rear end it is legal(you might want to check).
cat.....maybe $30
glass pack....$20
turn down.....$5
weld cost.......around $35
grand total $90
this is what i did to my 88GXL....it was loud and cheap!!! of course i was running straight pipe.

Its only temporary but would it be ok to use regular exhaust piping off of the two small cats then to the main cat and regular piping the rest of the way down? mabie a glass pack after the main cat? or would it get too hot?

I remember that thats why i was asking about getting hot. If they get hot enough to melt glass packs it probably would eat regular exhaust piping. What I mean by regular piping i mean this cheap crap.... Link: http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/b...n/DSCN1621.jpg

They just do a visual inspection of the emissions equipment in most counties upstate(North of NYC) for any car older than OBD2 (older than 95). So you could just get by with everything in place even if it doesn't function. Last time I got my FC inspected the guy just printed off the sticker and slapped it on the windshield... the only criteria it had to meet was that I drove it there and that it stopped when I drove it in the shop.

Are you a fabricator? Do you have a welder? Do you have access to scrap tubing? Do you already have mufflers? If the answer to all of the above is yes, then absolutely you can build a cheap exhaust.

Anything cheap is going to be stupid loud, sound like a weed whacker and probably not last 6 months.
In theory the local exhaust shop should be capable of creating an inexpensive system in stainless but it will probably cost more then $150. If you know someone who has done this work before it's only an afternoon with a welder, some tubing and a muffler. But again, materials cost will likely be more then $150.

I had my local shop do a 2.5" single pipe from the cat on back and a generic round cannister muffler (which looked surprisingly like the original ones)
and it has lasted over 2 years so far with little sign of giving out
cost me $125
The OP should stop by his local muffler shop to find out what he can and cannot get away with, let them know your budget and what you are trying to do
