well seeing as the stock tach can be calibrated it shouldn't be hard to make a face that has a different scale. that is pretty hot though.

I would blame that on the acceleration, like when you dont have much in your tank and you come to a stop, not holy crap im gonna hit something stop, but not a coast stop either, the guage drops then rises again if you watch it when you stop.

The R26b made power up to, I believe, 11k rpm. But they capped the redline at 9k rpm because they didn't know how running it above 9k rpm would affect the engine's reliability/longevity. Story is that after the race they inspected the internals of the engine and determined that they could have run another 24 hour race.

Not to burst your bubble but the car's on a dyno in that video.

And that car does NOT have a stock fuel tank either.

Here:

Thats the car.

I remember seeing something that he made the tach think the engine was going half the real rpm, turns a stock 8k tach into a 16k tach.

Bitchin engine build. He's done exactly what I've been doing to my build as far as exhaust goes (close eye watchers pay attention and use the search function if you pic out what I'm hinting at {another bone I'll throw, its been highly researched by Paul Yaw and I believe rotarygod reflected on this idea once or twice}) and he even lightened the rotors. NICE!
