10th Anniversary Turbo II
10th Anniversary Turbo II
First of all, I would like say what a great forum this is. It is always good to know that when I have a problem with my 88 SE I can browse the threads and find help. Thanks!
Here is my situation:
A 88 AE was advertised in my local newspaper today so I decided to go have a look. Apparently, the engine must have caught fire (pd I believe) and most of the goodies under the hood are toast (pretty much the left hand side, including engine). Also, the windshield has a few cracks, the sunroof is a little loose, the hood has a small hole in it, etc.
The bright side to this situation is that the car still looks GREAT (really, I mean it)! The interior looks BRAND SPANKING NEW! Everything is still original on it. (emblems, steering wheel, shifter ****, seats, etc.) In other words, you can drool at the car from far away, but dont get too close, or you will sigh in pain.
Anyway, I am thinking about buying the car and working on it as a project. The bad thing is that the seller (from the brief conversation I had with him) seems to have somewhat of an idea of how much the car could be worth. He is looking to get about $3000 for it. I figure I should offer him $1000 for it (remember, the car can not be driven and needs MAJOR work). Please let me know if this is a good offer.
Thanks,
James

A fire-damaged TII is worth about $500. In other words, he would get more money by parting it out. The parts are only worth about $800 since the hood has a hole in it. Contrary to popular belief, the 10AE has absolutely NO collector value at this time.
