10th anniversary How Much?

I saw this anniversary RX-7 for sale.. went there and checked out the car.

the details are

Mint repaint (of course)
Can see a tiny bit of rust mark from the rear wheel wells... only..

180000kms.
Good interier.. the leather is cracking abit.. not tearing up though.

Everything works except
1) Sunroof rail need to be replaced on one side
2) Door handle (easy fix)

Took it for a spin... found

The engine runs smooth.. no viberations and so on.
Tranny is good, but found it abit hard to put into gears 2 and 3rd. Might be the syncro

Suspension i firm.. not losen feels.. so the suspension is still good.

Brake.. not warped.. but not very responsive. Checked the master cylinder.. seems never replaced.. might be the problems... might be the caliper too.. who knows.

the A/C is stil working which is amazing..

the tires are good too.

So how much you gusy think this car worth IYHO?

he is asking 6500 of course with the sunroof and door handle fixed.

Good deal.. I just hate the repaint ..

I like the 10th AE, for all the factory white effects, and what it stands for. what color os the repaint? white, why hate? I'd try to lower the price for the syncro prob.

Yeah it's white .. repaint it white is a good thing for sure.

But I still think 6500 for that is too high..

it's hard to find a fair price for that age... but AE does keep its value better

i really like the 10 ae versions. I always thought of them as collector cars over anything else.

I like AE's as well. Would I pay a bit more to own one, sure. Would I pay a lot more, probably not.

Its the heaviest S4 TII, but has leather, special badges, steering wheel, shifter, floor mats etc. Unless all these things are still included with the car, it shouldn't cost much more than a regular TII.

6500 CDN sounds about right for a good condition AE in Ontario. That's just asking price anyway...

Thanks for the reply..
I was wondering why people gave so much extra credits to AE.
wish it's an original AE.

I own a "mint" AE, original paint, in excellent running condition. $6500 is in the ball bark if it's mint-I think anyway. I'd try and talk him down dwelling on "all the problems" with the gears and so on.

Well, a well cared-for rotary will still run nice at 180k even with turbo

A car is only as good as its owner(s)...

I love the 10AEs... kinda why I bought one. That's asking too much. I bought a 10AE with 12k miles on it for $7500. It's still 600 miles away though... damn school.

It has the best quality stock paint job of any RX-7 so far, it has a few unique features like headlight washers and a bronze windshield tint, and various badges and whatnot that has already been mentioned. All of this adds only about 6% to the resale value vs. an 88 TII in the same condition, which is actually a pretty good deal for what you get, especially when you consider the 10AE originally sold for more than 10% the price of a TII. It's strange that the limited-edition 10AE actually lost its value faster that the TII.

What pisses off J-Rat is when I mention the FACT that the 10AE has no collector value (except in his own mind, lol). It is possible that some day it will have some value and he can get his revenge on my statement of this current fact, but I seriously doubt it because the 10AE edition is pretty much an aesthetic-only trim, which has historically not commanded collector value.

Although it is good for any consumer to check current pricing as a reference point, the bottom line with the purchace of any used car is what it is worth to the buyer, not what it is worth to the seller or anybody else.

True, but the difference is so insignificant that I consider this a non-issue unless I am trying to annoy J-rat. Besides, the 10AE is a luxury trim like the GXL, not a performance trim like the Sport.

Only if it is a race car, in which case it would weight the SAME as a TII because the extra weight of the luxury items would be thrown in the trash during the stripping process. I know this because the car in the garage next to my 20B is a 10AE that has been stripped and has lots of street/strip goodies. It also has a cheap green paint job that would probably give J-Rat a heart attack, lol.

True, I didn't go into specifics because I consider the number insignificant. Note that I did mention that it was a limited-edition car (it's the part where I mention that the non-limited edition TII actually retained MORE resale value, lol.)

I dunno, maybe I like the prestige (you will probably argue this point too) of owning a limited edition car. If you want my honest opinion, both the regular TIIs and the 10th AEs are undervalued because we let them go at low prices. I also like the looks of the 10th AE. In my opinion, its by far the best looking of the FCs.

It does make me sad to see them get stripped, repainted other colors, and just generally turned into a regular TII, but thats the right of the owner of the car to do what he wants. Even I am modifying mine (to a point).

Hehehe, it was a previous owner who did it. The paint looks like one of those $100 cheapo jobs, and you can still see the original white through the pine green color. The paint job is so bad that it's going to cost a LOT to have the car repainted properly. The current owner is considering a pearl paint of some type, but he hasn't decided yet.

I don't think that any proud RX-7 owner can argue the point about being different.

I disagree. They are too old, and sell for about the same as similar cars like the 300ZX and Supra of the same year. Actually, the 88 300ZX limited edition Blue Book value is only a few dollars more than the non-limited edition 88 300ZX, which is interesting. If you look at the current selling price of Camaros and Mustangs from the same year, the Japanese sports cars look overvalued, lol.

That's an opinion, but I happen to agree with it. FYI I saw the brand new 10AE cars when they hit the Mazda showroom floors. Absolutely stunning!
