Yeah...upgrade to 5sp tranny.

It can be done, in about a day, with no cutting or frame modification, for the cost of the parts only. You have to fabricate one part for the car, plus run one wire about 4 feet.

You'll need the tranny, driveshaft, clutch parts, flywheel(to fit your year of motor, 86-8 or 89-91 are 2 different weight/balances), clutch hydraulics, pedal set, shifter parts, and starter. You should be able to get all these parts for around $300-500 anywhere, and I can get them for you if you cannot find them. Any 86-91 5sp car will work, except the flywheel neds to be off the year range of engine you car has(mentioned above). Turbo parts will fit your non turbo car and are an upgrade, but are harder to find and more expensive, plus youll need to change your rearend and axles if you go for this, but I wouldnt recommend it.

IF you'd like info on how to do this(I have a fully running model downstairs I converted last wek btw) I can give precise directions on how to make it appear and work like stock.

hey, i don't have the knowledge or tools to swap a manual tranny into my '90 n/a (which is, for now, an automatic), but i really want to get a manual put in. i'm in the dallas area so rotary performance is near me, as is don marvel of marvelspeed. should i try taking my car to one of them or is there someone else in this area that could do a good job for not too much $$? better yet anyone w/ a bunch of free time (and knowledge and tools) willing to help a poor college kid do it? any help would be great.

mike
