$2000 for new transmission??

I've been told it's a waste of time to rebuild an RX7 transmission with high miles, since the gears them selves have abnormal wear and will break after the rebuild.

Is this true?

Is $2000 about right for a new factory unit?

Most times it really isn't cost effective to rebuild a tranny - you can easily spend $2000 on a tranny rebuild. I shudder to think what a new tranny from Mazda would run - my guess would be exorbitant.

Best bet is to find a good used tranny - they usually go for around $150 or so.

Www.pineappleracing.com will rebuild your tranny for $450. They also attach a warranty as well.

list on a brand new tranny is $2000-2200. this is about $500 more than a rebuild, but you dont have to go back 2-3 times for them to get it right

Had mine done twice. Mazda under warranty @ 85,000 miles $1200-Labor to pull/rebuild etc. KD did it again in Aug along with engine install $615 (156,000). Syncros just go after a period of time. Buy used and you can end up with the same problem after all the aggrevation of pulling/installing the used trans.
Pull it yourself and have it rebuilt. Just my opinion.
