thanks speculum, i'll try that.

25$rx7, what speculum said is a proven way to tell if the motor on the starter is bad. if it's not, i WON'T get another one. by the way, i AM saving money by doing all of this myself.

any other input on the overall situation is welcome.

ok, i changed the starter. then i cranked it (egi trick too) and it sounds really clean like a pretty brand new starter. but it still doesn't start. so i checked to see if i had spark. i pulled one leading coil out and got some one to crank it and it sparked. then i pulled a trailing and it didn't spark. i'm thinking that's normal and that means i have spark. then i went to pull the fuel line off at the hard line to the motor and i couldn't just yet (it's really cold and i gave up quick). so i'll probably do that tomorrow. if i'm getting fuel when i check it tomorrow, what do you recommend i do?

okay i changed the spark plugs and noticed that the tips of all four old ones were BLACK and caked with carbon. put in the new ones and it still won't start up. i put L1 and T1 in the plugs on the rotor closest to the front of the car. i'm guessing that's right. if not please let me know soon. i guess i'll just go out there and try it switched right now.

Front is 1, rear is 2. Top is T, bottom is L. They are marked on the block and on the coils.

You sure it isn't just flooded? www.rotaryresurrection.com ---> tech ---> unflooding info

Compression checked it yet, or still too stubborn to do so? www.rotaryresurrection.com ---> tech ---> compression check

so i got the plug wires right. wasn't sure if it was marked on the block. I'm almost certain it isn't flooded. i almost do the unflooding procedure everytime before i try to start it. when i changed the plugs i took out the bottom two first and cranked it a few times to clean it out then i took out the top two and cranked a few more times to make sure. then i put all four back in and hooked up the plug wires. i tried to crank it and no turn over. when i took out just the bottom two, i listened to it and it sounded pretty healthy. there weren't any uneven sounding swooshes.

Unflooding isn't just about blowing all the excess gas out...half of the procedure is adding some oil or atf to raise compression. Why dont you try that. Just 2 or 3 squirts from an oil can or pump into each chamber. Use the lower plugholes, or if you have a hose big enough, use the nipple above the BAC valve which is evenly split between front and rear rotors.

i'll try that tomorrow with 20w50 but in the meantime... i just went out there and did the EGI fuse thing then tried to crank it. after that i took out the lower plugs and smelled them and i could smell a faint fuel smell but not much and when i wiped my finger on the top of it, i didn't notice any thing on it. so i'm thinking maybe i'm not getting fuel. another thing that makes me think i may not be getting fuel is:
1. when i first had the problem coming from st. bernard, it was going but when i hit the throttle, it would bog down (lose power). and it got progressively worse.
2. don't know if this is anything but when i was trying to figure out what was wrong when i couldn't get up the 5 deg. slope, i pushed my arm against the fuel inlet (i'm pretty sure) by the plugs and the car died.

i don't know. losing my mind trying to make the deadline (dec. 10-exhaust appointment). i did the lightly flooded unflood procedure then i put about 1/4 cup of 20w50 idemitsu full synthetic rotary racing oil into both the bottom plug holes, put the plugs back in, put the egi fuse back in, installed the plug wires, and tried to crank it with the gas pedal floored. nothing. i believe i'm getting fuel. i'm absolutely stumped. PLEASE HELP.
