What's she worth these days?

I have been thinking about this for a while, and it might be that time has come to part ways with my RX7. I am trying to figure out what she's worth, and I have seen all sorts of crazy figures out there, from the very low KBB 4k to the very absurd dude that has one on ebay that is nearly identical to my car and he wants 29k, good luck to him! I would gladly sell him my 350z and my RX7 for that price.

Anyways, it has 24k miles, I am the second owner, 100% original, I even have the original tires (not on the car), brand new Dunlop Direzza tires, car is immaculate. Shiny paint, no rust, it has 2 TINY dings on the passenger's door and some paint chips on the front, typical wear and tear for a 20k miles car, but overall this car is in unreal shape.

What is this car realistically worth, I've had it for two years, and drove it for 2k miles, its sitting in the garage.

Thanks for your feedback and I am sorry if this is posted in the wrong thread, I am just trying to get some suggestions.

I forgot to mention that I have pics under my profile, for some reason they would not load here.

not as much as you would like to think. these are driver's cars, not collectors cars.

at best $10k if it's in showroom condition.

Haha, funny but true! Sometimes there is a bit of a gap between what owners think their cars are worth and what the market is willing to pay! Thats why I am here, to try to figure it out, I tend to agree with your opinion. This car is in showroom condition, scary how little wear and tear shows... The previous owner was a car collector and due to age, got rid of all his toys. He told me all his sports cars were never driven in the rain, and I literally laughed at that, since I live in OR, it tends to rain quite a bit here. I took the car to a rotary specialist, we hoisted it up and underneath this thing is immaculate, not one drop of of oil/rust or any oil stains.

Looks pretty nice... I'd start at $10k. That's a classic.

5k tops. Although if you hold out for a collector or serious enthusiast you might be able to get a little bit more.

5k tops my ***. You should realistically get 8k easy, maybe 9-10 if you hold out for the right buyer.

Problem is, most people don't like to wait the 3 years (completely unrealistic number) it'll take to sell the car for that. It'll take a serious enthusiast to spend that much on it.

These cars are not collector cars to anyone except FC owners. Therefore, 9-10k is a crap shoot and running on hopes that someone will actually spend that.

And I'm not just saying that to be a douche. It's the truth. But if the seller is willing to hold out, $10k may be possible, but I'd say that most will offer 6k tops.

^That's why most of us say $10k, just because. We all know nobody is paying that, but you start high, and can take a few off. 7 to 8 is definitely plausible. I wouldn't bother getting less than 6500 for that, it's too nice a car. 24k miles... that has to be one of the 10 lowest anywhere, no?

I agree 9-10k is not going to be an easy sell and could take a while, just saying it could be possible. I just find 5-6k hard to believe for 24k orig miles and very clean. I've seen beat up and molested TII's going for 4-5k.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback, this has been such a great forum. Once I start to actively try to sell it, I have no doubt it will take a while, and I am ok with that. In no rush to sell it, as most of you know these cars are addicting, this is my 3rd RX7, and by far the best I have ever seen. I would prefer to see it with someone that will cherish it as much as me and the previous owner did. Either way, as Beefhole said, if it gets to the point where $6500.00 is all these cars fetch, then I would rather drive it more and keep it.

I'd keep it anyway. If you have a car that clean, selling it is implausible.

I've seen modified FC n/a selling for 6500$ around here. Every car look like crap with the winter and calcium they put on the road, so a really clean example like yours can be sold to higher prices for sure. The problem is these are car are not only sold to drivers, but to kids in search of a cheap sport car, so you will meet a lot of aggressive lowballers.

I may be the only one, but I will surely want a clean original example in the future. I assume I will need to pay a good amount of money for that. I wish that people like you continue to do their best to keep these clean examples in pristine condition. I am a collector type of person. I am a rare breed. But still I am sure there are other people like me.

Do you have all the bills and the original buying contract?

Dang man...
You need to come out to the RPNW (Rotary Power NorthWest) meet one day when it's nice out..

First Wednesday of the month at the Round Table Pizza on Barbur Blvd. ~7-9PM.

Also, it's surely worth $8K+ IMO... [If I had a job that really paid.. >_>]

On a different note.. You should get clear bra all over that guy to keep it clean [Ask for John at http://www.apexautospa.com/ in Beaverton and tell him Derek sent you]

Thanks Derekcat, I have been trying to get out to one of those meets, never quite made it. Mark (used to have the FD3S Engineering shop in Beaverton) does all my maintenance, I still talk to him and he's the only one touching the car, even for oil changes. I might have to get one of those bra's, I was always worried it would scratch the car, but if I end up keeping it and driving it a bit more, bra sounds great! I was also planning to have those guys do a detail once spring comes, I heard good things about them. With this crappy weather, it won't get driven for a while, call me stupid, I use a 350Z as a DD.

wankelgrandfather - I would have to look, but I am fairly certain I have it, the old guy I got it from kept everything, including the sticker.

Ahh, yeah, you should definitely try to make it out sometime. We've got a great group of people and a lot on the calendar for this year (Sykart on the 3rd Wednesday of every month, a couple of drives, a corral at the Portland Historic Races just for Rotaries, BBQs, etc..)

Nice! Marc's the best person you could have working on it! ^_^

Err.. Not a regular bra, because those will scratch up your nosecone and trap moisture and crud on it, but rather, clear bra: it's a plastic film you can have put on that will prevent any rock chips or scratches.

Yep! John had a 91' Coupe for a looong time [I think he was the original owner?], and they do a great job on everything there.

Hehe no worries! I'm sure more people call me stupid for using an 87 FC as a DD XD [see sig. pict]

there's always someone out there with deeper pockets, but timing and finding them is the issue.

ran into a random guy at the import shop next door, loves rotaries and wound up picking up an old RX4 for $4500, has dropped another $5k into it so far and it still needs paint and body work as well as other restoration work. he will be into it for $12-15k and he seems to be 100% ok with that, though i know there is already restored 4's out there for less than $10k. this one will still have an old original looking bay with unknown mile motor, if it isn't original, for that amount of money... and he is going to buy my REPU as well and i could probably have upped the price and he would have been ok with it!

Thanks guys, I think the general consensus is that 10k or so will be top dollar but it will take a while to get there and might not ever get there. I will most likely post it on Ebay/Autotrader once the weather gets better, and see what happens. As some of you said, if all I can get is offers around 6k or so, I would rather keep it and enjoy it for a few thousand miles each summer.

Thanks again, this is a great forum!
