VICTORY IS OURS! - S5 JDM Tii Swap is DONE!
The primary rails bracket was all caddy-whompus causing a massive air leak on the front injector. TigerJapanese sent us an engine with a broken off BAC, crushed oil pan, broken passenger side engine bracket and broken off reverse switch. I can't imagine how the primary fuel rail got bent up like that!
We worked it over in the vice and then once we got it in the car and found that the pipes on the rail were 1/16th of an inch or so above the top grommets on the injectors we took the spacer and injectors out and gave it a couple of whacks with the sledge and board and everything lined up beautifully.
When we tried starting it it sputtered once (the fuel rails were empty of course) and then started right up and settled into a beautiful 500 rpm idle. No surging, nothing!
I jumped the ISC (I have a wire set up and already grounded ) and turned the idle screw on the BAC. But it didnt do anything. Thinking about it I dont think it has ever done anything. Hmmm... So I checked the timing and the pointer was halfway between the yellow and red marks. Loosed the bolt, turned the CAS and as I got to the yellow mark the revs grew to an even 750! Again, solid, smooth and beautiful!
Watched it for a couple of minutes looking for leaks and seeing none took it on a quick ride. It was picture perfect! We of course didnt push it (it's 100 degrees out) since we had no hood, air filter or intercooler but it drove around the neighborhood really nice. And since it's a fresh build we didnt want to rev it but we did take it to 4500 a couple of times just to make sure the secondaries were kicking in.
And of course when I said "DONE" in the title I didnt mean "DONE-DONE"; just "DONE." We have 15 minutes worth of assembly to do and we need to drain the water and out and put in a real distilled water/coolant mixture. And then we need to redo the MT5 wiring to drive the reverse lights. Oh, and we're still waiting on the cf ViS hood from illstreet. And then there is the S4 Tii diff and axles sitting in a box... And the top needs to be replaced... See "DONE", not "DONE-DONE!"
I wanted to thank the folks who have taken the time to do the write-ups I found invaluable including Aaron Cake's, Rotary Resurrection's and 2RotorSpeed. They were all well done and I certainly appreciate the effort.
I also wanted to thank the members who took the time to read my plaintive and often pathetic posts and took the time to share their experience and insights, in particular RETed, arghx, Icemark, molotovman, J-Rat and HAILERS. You all helped tremendously to move the ball forward.
Thanks,
Jim
