Is there any way you can tell if an engine has been rebuit?
I am just wondering if the guy that sold me the car was telling me the truth about rebuilding the motor and that it had about 40k on it when I bought it.
so the motor has 40k on it since the rebuild? the only way would be possibly if it was painted often rebuilt motors are but it might be hard to tell now. and also u could take the large front pulley bolt out and see if it has a solid thermal pellet in it. but again this dosent prove or disprove it. just goin on the fact that most rebuilds use a solid thermal pellet.
another way that i can think of is to do a compression test on it and if the car has somthing like 300k+ on the body and the motor still has 100psi then its most likly been rebuilt

DO NOT take the front bolt out unless you know what you are doing. You run the risk of dropping a torrington bearing off the endplay spacer, and thus having to pull the front cover off and restack the front assembly.
