some night shots... in the mtns.

Grainy as hell from accidental high ISO's but whatever. lol. Hope you guys enjoy. Had a blast tonight and shooting these wasn't my priority, hence the lack of artistic touch and detail my pics usually have. lol.

Turn the ISO down as much as possible to get it smooth and crisp, use a tripod to steady the shot, and use a longer exposure for the darker and less amount of light. Those are the basics off the top of my head but different settings for each situation. The best way to find out is to mess around w/ different situations and find out what works w/ what.

These were just quickies tonight and kinda not happy w/ them but it was a very fun night.

South Carolina has desolate places in the upstate... trust me, its like a no-man's land up in our runs. No lights, traffic, or anything except the mountains and road. lol. Long exposure, plus a clear night. You can see a slight hint of the stars making their trails from the earth rotating and the camera being fixed on it.

We are going again tonight and I will do a 2 hour long exposure so it will look more like this...

my shot was taken for about 20 minutes... I'll do a long *** one to add more of an effect.

Also, the 240. We stuck a flashlight down into the muffler. lol.

yes sir... also the NR "noise reduction" feature for ones that long. I have the Nikon MB-L3 infared remote that allows you to choose when to open your shutter, and take as long as your battery will last, and then choose when you want to close it. lol.

I have seen 6-8 hour exposures as well. lol.

Beautiful. I love the fact that you can take that long of an exposure. My D40 will only stay open for the longest setting of 20 seconds... Do you just guesstimate where north is? Lol, or do you have it all mapped out?

remember all those star charts that students made in High School...? haha. Yeah, I will have to get some better ones of them pointed at direct north.

I have seen some people place the north star on top of a church steeple and looks as if the stars are spinning around the top point.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!
