should i buy this???
ita an 87 T II its got 125,000 miles, everything works cept it smokes a little bit when it starts and it needs a new tps unit. he said for me being a previous rx owner and me not wanting to rip out the engine and drop in a small block (apparently thats really popular here in tenn) he would sell it for 2700, and the only thing hes done to it is a full system racing beat exahust from the motor back. so please give me some input. please and thanks
ps sorry the pics are so big

im pretty sure he said its racing beat, its either that or some exahust system with the word racing in it, probly alot of them. but as soon as i get a chance ill snap some shots of the engine and inside. i mean my mechanic said its a pretty good deal, hes had a few rxs anyway so i trust him, hes mainly had 1 gens only but he said hed do all the work on the car cheaper than another place cause were pretty good friends. sooo yea

Definetly not racing beat. Racing beat looks fancy and chrome. Those are just fart cannons. I say go for it. Ask him if you can take it out for a spin, see if it boost properly with no boost creep. Make sure the turbo is healthy and check compression.

well i did take it out already, and as far as i know the boost seems to work, i mean i really noticed it approcing highway speeds, he told me the turbo kicks in around 45mph. not sure how true that is. but i didnt see the boost gauge go up until i got on the highway, then i would see it move up and down as im pressing and realsing the throttle. and would i have to take it to mazda to have them to the compression check or will my mechanic have a test for it? and i cant for the life of me remember what type of exahust system it is. i swear it had the word racing in it and he said it went from new headers (same type of system) to the muffler tip. cause i asked him if it was just a tip or not. oh and it doesnt have power steering, he said thats cause its the turbo verson. he said they didnt have power steering on turbos but did on tother versions. dont know how true that is either, i dont know much about 2nd or 3rd gens, i tried to learn mainly 1st gens since that was what i ownd at the time.

I would talk him down on the price..
But other than that it sounds like a decent deal.
Make sure everything is legit before you purchase it.
Car looks clean thought.
Besides the paint..

well you have a GXL. isnt that a little cheaper than a Turbo II anyway? i mean the blue book for a TII in the condition that this one is in is about 2400 or 2500. im not sure what the bluebook for a GXL is but im pretty sure that the TIIs are rarer(if thats how you spell it) than a GXL.

Talk him down on that price.
Money talks and BS walks. $2200.00 CASH in hand is stronger then talking about 2700.00. I would put $2000.00 in one pocket, and $100 in another and $100 in another, walk around the car about 20 times each trip around find something else you hate and what its gonna cost you to get it right. Then look him dead in the eye and say that you dont want to offend him but $2000 CASH is the best you can offer him. If he says he wants to get closer to his asking price, say you might be able to go $2100.00 but it needs a alot of work. Dont pay more then $2200.00.
I use this method when buying cars, its hard to pick apart something as your falling in love with it, but it saves you money.
Good Luck

well he doesnt have a for sale sign in it. so technicly its not for sale. but after talking to him for about an hour he told me that he would sell it to me for the right price. he said that since he doesnt plan on selling it that he wanted 3500 for it. but he talked i talked it down to 2700. but if you guys think that 2200 is the highest i should go then i guess thats what ill have to work for. but i still need to know whats up with the no power steering thing. cause thats something to lower the price for, and the boost creep. not too sure what a true strong running TII should feel like. so if some one could help me out on the little things that i mentioned earlier in this thread that would help me out a little more. thanks

ok well iv just posted my dodge for sale on craigs list. i asked 3500 for it, but im not really expecting to get that much, any way as soon as its sold and i have the cash then its back to the guy to try to buy it. im gonna start the offer at 1800, im also gonna bring my step dads scanner to hook up to the rx and see if theres any other things wrong with it. my step dad is also coming along to make sure i dont end up paying too much. since i really REALLY want another 7 im lible to end up paying too much for something thats not worth it.

Regarding your question about power steering, it was optional on the '87 TII, so this wouldn't be a reason to try to get the seller to lower his price. Of course, many TIIs were ordered with power steering, so if you prefer that, you may want to pass on this particular car.
If you have any other questions about the original equipment, check the excellent sticky at the top of the Second Generation section called "Specifications...":

you guys in the U.S are lucky, RX7 there are so cheap compared to RX7s here in Austraila. That car would sell for $4500+ here, i bought my 1990 S5 for $13000 4years ago and they still sell them in car yards at that price too.

daaamn. im sorry about that. but you guys have models and editions that we dont have here in the us. got this off wikipedia, "Australia had a special high performance version of the RX-7 in 1995, dubbed the RX-7 SP. This model was developed as a homologated road-going version of the factory race cars used in the 12hr endurance races held at Bathurst, New South Wales, beginning in 1991 for the 1995 event held at Eastern Creek, Sydney, New South Wales. An initial run of 25 were made, and later an extra 10 were built by Mazda due to demand. The RX-7 SP produced 204 kW (274 hp) and 357 N·m (263 ft·lbf) of torque, compared to 176 kW (236 hp) and 294 N·m (217 ft·lbf) on the standard version." you also had a Bathurst R too. more horse power then allowed in the US.
