Those red interiors didn't look quite so scab-like when they were new. You can see on the car in the photos that the seats themselves have a decent amount of sun-fading compared with, say, the rear carpeting. My parents had an '89 626 and a '90 MX-6, both with the maroon interiors, and at the time they looked pretty decent.

Granted, this color combo hasn't really aged that well, but red interiors were popular in cars since pretty much 1900. It's only recently that they have disappeared.

SO thats what my interior would look like if it wasn't destroyed by the sun. Mines more pink than red at this point LOL. Beautiful car. Jump on it!

Do what everyone else has said already: BUY IT
To find our cars these days, in that condition, is once in a lifetime.

I think the 80's had some ridiculous paint/interior choices, and that gold/red is one of them KEEP IT that way. It doesn't get any better than this!

me too! my first rx7 was that color, bought it in 1994 with 75k miles, superbase 86

anyways that car is nice, but it would be better if they had left it stock, ie that exhaust CF gauge cluster thing and rear strut bar suck

but lower it, some wheels, and it will look great.

those are all easy things to remove, im not a fan of the exhaust, or gauge cluster carbon fiber either.

my plans are coilover's, wheels/tires, and a front lip....those will be done asap.

Oh wow, that thing is mint!! You know, I actually don't mind the red interior with that color *puts on flame suit*. I'd buy the hell out of it if I had the chance (and money ).

Oh yeah, I noticed you mentioned S5 tails in the first post. As much as I'd like to see a car of this caliber stay all original, how much would you want for those S4 tails?

well, i went to the guys house again, to pay him for the car....this time it wasnt rainig outside, and i was able to pull it outside.

to my suprise, the car had been painted from the pin stripes down, and the lower half of the car was slightly off color compared to the original paint on the upper half, also...there was overspray inside the driver and passanger door jam's.

i did do a carfax, and it was a clean record with the correct miles.

it seems the car was in a small accident, and someone in the past had painted the bottom half of the driver and passanger side, and now the clearcoat is peeling slightly.

i was excited to buy that car until i found that.

i walked away from it.

no way in hell am i buying a car that has peeling clearcoat on both 1/4 panel's, and both door's, as well as the color being slightly darker for $5800.

that seller wasnt planning on me looking at the car outside in the sun before paying him, and singing the title.

ill keep looking for a clean FC.....

Yep 5800 too much with your new info!! And sometimes you can't even tell when the paint looks good all over! WHen I bought my 10AE all the paint looked mint. About 1 year later washing the car with nothing more than an average backyard hose it started blasting away paint from the door, roof, etc. Now the car looks like it is a leper with its skin falling off.

Glad you caught the issues!

yeah, i noticed the exhaust leak first (he re-used a gasket where the downpipe meets the turbo) and i knew that wasnt that bad, but i still counted it as a first strike....then i noticed the paint on the passanger 1/4, and couldnt really figure out what was going on with that because that was the side away from the sun, so i counted that as stike 2.

then when i got to the driver side, and could easily see the color difference from about 8 feet away, i knew i didnt need to look at the interior, or at anything else in detail...so i told the guy i was walking away because i couldnt justify spending $5800-$6k on a car with 44k miles that has been repainted.

hey thats my car. Anyway I never painted it or wrecked it. About the clear coat. When I bought the car in florida it had this nasty pinstripping on it. I peeled it off and it left lines the size of a razor blade of each side. I thought it was adhesive but after I started picking at it I found out I was picking at the clear coat.

The contractor I work for was a painter/body man for rolls royce in the 70's. He painted mohamed ali's car. And still paints(has a spray booth). I'm going to take it over there and get his take on it cause I can't see a difference in the paint.

I have a dslr rebel xti. I can take macro shots if you guys want when its sunny out.

Right now I'm just thinking about keeping the car after putting all that emissions **** back on and driving for the first time in months I began rethinking why am I selling it.

Grip, I wasnt trying to pull anything on you. Was I hesitant to pull the car out of the garage?no. You said don't start the car until I get over there. I told you I just drove it a hour and a half ago and it was still warm. When you said you had to walk away I said ok. I pointed out the exhaust leak and I think I mentioned the pinstripping to you as well. I also said the carfax was clean but I wasnt going to pay $35 to get you a copy of the carfax.

Anyway good luck on finding a unmolested fc with low miles. I only see a few pop up once a year and they are usually in cali or florida.

On one hand, buying a car that needs extensive paintwork can be very off-putting. If you want to get the whole car repainted right, you're probably looking at something like $3000 at least. On the other hand, finding a 22 year old car that doesn't have some paint issues will be very, very rare. If that car were showroom perfect, I'd guess it would be worth a bit more than $5800, but needing a total repaint, I'd agree it probably isn't worth $5800.

yea 2-3k for a good paint job. I can get it done for the cost of materials($800 or less). I'd probably only paint it if I were to add a body kit to it. The paint doesnt bother me. I can't notice it and the picking at the clear coat is maybe 2 inches on each side. Doesnt really bother me as long as the car runs good.

I helped with this dodge ram. Just a real quick paint job, no engine pull or anything, just to get rid of the dents and rust. Cant really see it. Paint used on this was the shitty $250 gallon paint.

by no means am i bashing you, or the car your selling. i have been honest in this thread, and you were very honest when i came and looked at the car.

i have been doing paint and bodywork since 2000, i can easily see the difference in color from 8 feet away, and its very common for ghetto body shop's to repair damage and only have to paint the lower half of the car, they often use the pin stripes as a point to mask the upper half of the car off so they dont have to paint the whole side of the car, and the pinstripe will breakup the contrast in color.

had you of never taken the pin stripe off, i might not have ever noticed the color difference. but i would have noticed the overspray in the door jam's, and the uneven bondo job in the door jam.

it is very possible that the car was in a light accident that did not total the car out due to the condition, and mileage, thus the clean carfax and title.

anyways, it is a very clean car, and need very little.

i personally cant justify spending close to $6k on a car that has shady paint and bodywork on the bottom half, and the clear coat is peeling off.

anyways, thanks for showing me the car, and good luck with the sale.

For a car of this age, don't be too reliant on what you see on Carfax. That service is only a few years old, and when I ran a Carfax on my 1990 RX-7 (which I owned since 1995), I was frankly amazed at what wasn't in it. The car was vandalized and had extensive bodywork in 1996 and the front end was hit in a parking lot in 2000 and again had pretty extensive bodywork. Both times it was reported to the insurance carrier and paid/repaired through them. Neither incident appeared in Carfax. I'd trust Carfax for anything after, say 2004, but before that you're better off trusting your eyes and your own inspection of the car, which it sounds like you did.

i never even ran a carfax on the car, i took the sellers word on it being clean. and like you said, i always trust my own eyes over a piece of paper that can be wrong on many level's.

it is a nice car, but i will not spend $6k on a car that has peeling clearcoat, and overspray in the door jams.

id rather the car have dent's, and paint chips all over it with original paint, than someones cover up paint job.
