before i bought my fc, it was either an fc or a 944. drove a 944, and never considered it again. too heavy, too bulky, don't like anything under the hood, parts availability all changed my mind to not get one. they're pretty cool... but not what i was looking for. now that the fc is turbo, in a lighter body style, in a body style that i find much more appealing... dont feel like i made a wrong decision

I had a 944, I got the timing belt checked by an expert before I put it up for the winter, in the spring it rubbed on something and broke. $3000.00 to fix. The rear ends on the 944s are fragile too, bear in mind for drifting.
The last straw was when the fuel pressure regulator sprung a leak of gas onto the exhaust manifold and it burst into flame at 100 klicks/hour. The insurance company gave me $6000.00 so I bought a really nice 88vert for $3,000.00, undersealed, no rust, such a pretty car, nice with the top down.
Parts are easily available, new and used,. I just love that little car.
Just abandon the thought of a 944. I would never have another, it was a money pit. It had a bad habit of cutting out when you went over a bump and even the Porsche dealer could not fix it.
I know the RX7 has a problem with the pulsation damper, there is a new spare in the glovebox and I check it out weekly.

944s can be great cars, they are just a niche vehicle much like an FC. Timing belts and water pumps are easy to do, clutch is a PITA but hardly a regular service item. They are a blast on track and the interiors have aged much better than that of the FC. Electronics are dead simple and pretty reliable. A well modded 944 turbo is a very fast car and they are really nice to drive around in... a lot of undeserved flak in this thread.

You didn't make any power in that car because it was so half-assed.
On a side note... How is the FC not a reliable daily driver? It really isn't that bad. It's an old car, just like the next old Chevy or old Ford. Though, comparatively, the FC is a tad more stout mechanically. Then again, in the ways of build quality and power/drive-train components, there isn't much else that rivals the FC's rugged essential parts.
Where else are you going to find a good looking, fun to drive, RWD sports car with proper pedigree that can take as much of a physical beating as the FC? You can't.
Imagine the FC like a durable truck.
That being said, they cannot withstand any degree of neglect.
The way I think about Daily Driving an FC is: It's a well-made car with a fiddly engine. That is literally no worse than driving an old MG, Alfa Romeo, or Fiat.
So everyone, for the love of Christ and ALL that is Holy.... quit your bitching about how poorly an FC does as a daily.

The 924 was ALMOST called a VW. The oil crisis came along, and VW scrapped the project in favor of the 1st gen Scirocco.
Trivia: the 924 was produced at the NSU factory...The same NSU that made the very 1st rotary powered production car, and the same NSU that eventually became Audi.

so Audi a merger of Audi, DKW, Horch, Wanderer, and NSU, so are they short a ring?

My buddy ifs currently building a spec 944 race car for NASA, I chuckle every time he sends me updates about the latest crazy procedure or uber-expensive part. And all this in a car that will make 150hp max....

Fc is a way better car.
Porche timing belt every 30,000 miles. Sometimes they break b4 30k and it wrecks the valves $$
If u buy a FC u can get body kits parts and motor cheap. But it's hard to find good tuners.
At the very least u can do a ls1 swap which anyone can work on and make fast.
I'm building a blow through carb rx7. My carbs run better then most efi systems.
