RX7 won't go into gear while running

So I was driving to the paddock sale at fatlace in san mateo and when I got to the toll booth at san mateo bridge the car just wouldn't go into gear. It's not grinding, just it won't move. Grinds when I try to go into reverse.

All the fluids are full and the pedal is compressed completely. It goes into gear while the engine is off.

I have been hearing noises (squeaks) when the clutch is depressed. I think the throw out bearing is gone. Would that cause my symptoms? I pretty much can't get the clutch to disengage.

So I was thinking. If I have to replace the clutch/bearings the transmission is going to be dropped right? I currently have a turboII engine with an N/A transmission. How much would I be looking at for parts alone to switch the clutch to a turbo clutch and a turbo II transmission.

I have an idea of what I would need.
TurboII Clutch +pilot bearing/throwout bearing
TurboII Transmission
Turbo to NA driveshaft.

Any idea of how much it would cost for these? Would it be worth the upgrade to turbo-spec transmission/clutch. I'm pretty sure I that my current clutch and transmission is okay its just the throwout bearing that needs replacing so I'm currently looking at the difference in cost between replacing and upgrading.

its all in what you want to spend. if your gonna get a clutch go aftermarket while you have it apart. ive seen turbo 2 transmissions go for like 250 on craigslist. but are you sure its not the clutch fork causing issues or anything silly like that?

I'm almost certain it was the throw-out bearing. I've been getting noise from the bearing for around a month. Intermittent ,but it was there. I was ignorant about it and I knew it was gonna fail eventually.

It makes sense that it failed and caused my problems. Also I realized that this is in the wrong section, could a moderator kindly move it to 2nd gen and not 2nd gen non technical?

But yeah. I don't want to spend too much. I'm hoping around $350 for a aftermarket clutch (nothing too crazy, I'm not planning to push huge numbers), plus the price of a transmission. Me and a friend are gonna do the transmission work ourselves. I'm also trying to find the cost of a turbo to NA driveshaft (I want to keep the gxl LSD), but can't find any onlne.

Check your clutch master or slave cylinder to make sure they are working properly. If your cant build enough pressure to disengage the clutch you wont be able to shift into gears from a neutral position.

It sounds like the throw out bearing.

sounds like a throw out bearing, which means you should just purchase a clutch kit, and all new seals.

This literally just happened to me last week, my throw out bearing had been going since about buffalo on the way back from dgrr.

Keep in mind that dropping the tranny without proper equipment will be very difficult, and that you need to get the car up atleast a couple feet to get the tranny out, and give you some space to work with. This is why I decided Mazda can take this job

Clutch job with hand tools and jackstands is ez mode. Not worth paying a dealership labor over it.

Just an update. Me and a buddy got the tranny out. Turns out the pilot bearing got annihilated. I really thought it was the throw-out bearing. Well I have a new pilot bearing and throw-out bearing to install.

Time to get this pilot-bearing out. Hopefully I won't screw things up. I'm not willing to pay 80bucks for a tool I will use once. My friend has a puller and he'll let me modify it to get the bearing out. Hopefully it works.

But yeah, having friends pays off. Plus I get to learn something new.
