rips in leather seats

I have been trying to take care of my original fc seats but the side of the seat is starting to rip. I have noticed in pictures that other people's seats are torn in the same spot so i am assuming a lot of other people have this problem. What is the best way to repair a tear in the seats, specifically, the leather on on the side?

Any suggestions would be helpful. I found this on amazon calle "Tear Aid". Has anybody used it before?

take it to an auto retrimmers, just pay to retrim that section if you can or they may be able to offer a repair solution. (i got quoted 150NZD for mine which is nothing in my opinion) drivers side im assuming, it happens to every car just from getting in and out.

Honestly, the stock leather is so old and hard, it's just going to start tearing somewhere else. I suggest you buy a set of leather replacements off ebay. They're actually pretty easy to put on. Tedious, but easy.

Pretty sure same price for coup seats. You just have to tell them that's what you want.

Anyone has pics of the results installed? I am curious to see how it really looks like new and how the fitments is... I am considering buying a set but I'd like to be sure how I like the look of it first.

Maybe not soon enough to provide pics for this thread, but these are the people I planned on ordering my seat cover replacements from (assuming that ebay seller is leatherseats.com). Their feedback isn't great, and without reading through it I can guess it is mostly due to buyers not reading everything through.

Correction to my post from a few days ago. Now that I had time to do some more searching, these are the ones I planned on ordering:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260920846116...ht_2319wt_1396

There is a drastic price difference between the two sellers and an incredible difference in feedback as well.

People blow more money than that fairly regularly around here. It's just a matter of priorities and what suits you best.

The thing to do in your case may just be to find an automotive upholstery shop and see if they can fix just that section and have it match somewhat.

I will take that advice. I am sure people that blow that money are pretty well established in life. For a 24 year old guy who is about to get married and start a family $800 is a lot of money because it is almost a full month's rent lol.

I agree, $799.00 is insane when the same seller sells the convertible seat covers on ebay for $395.00 per pair.

Very true. Although a lot of the people I was sort of referencing are of the 18 year old type who have little responsibilities, so they choose to blow their money on their cars. Perfectly acceptable decision, I myself probably did way worse with my money as an 18 year old. Congrats on the soon to be married life and potential family in the future. They are fun!

That is pretty crazy. The only reason I could see to lower the convertible set is that it says it is in stock and ready to ship. Perhaps it is an order that was canceled by the buyer and they want to get rid of the inventory. The coupe set is listed as 4-6 weeks for the covers to be made. They still have to be making money at $395, they should probably look at how much profit they wish to make versus sales they could potentially get.

Just take your time, don't force anything, and most important pay attention where you remove the hog rings so you know where to squeeze the new hog rings to reinstall. Maybe take notes describing where each was removed so you don't forget.

The headrest speaker covers for my Vert were the most challenging. Then I figured out that the rear foam was a separate piece you took out first to give the wiggle room to get the remaining out and back in.

If you get contrasting color stitching, take time to massage the leather around so that the stitch lines line up properly.

Tedious, but not difficult.

They look very good. Were these the leatherseats.com variety or a different vendor?

When I talked to them at leatherseats.com, they stated that the black or graphite colored convertible seats are kept in stock pretty much all the time, therefore the lower price. However, as you stated above, the turbo seats are made once they have been ordered. I still just don't know how they can justify a $400.00 difference. I wish there was a way to get a group buy going on the turbo seat covers. I need a set of black leather skins for my 91.

As do I. I wonder what it takes to get a group buy approved for posting around here these days. And if leatherseats.com would even be able to give us decent pricing.
