hrmm...what are some of the down falls of cloth that u would only do it wit ha garage kept car?? after the lease is up i told my roomies we need to move so i can have at least one garage stall lol. but i really like the appearance of the cloth much better and it doesnt seem like it would rip like the vinyl does...idk the oem top jsut seems a bit cheap to me...

the oem top is really easy to clean, so if you clean it alot it will stay clean easier.
The cloth tops can grab your wash mitt and toweling, along with being a dirt and lint magnet.
So if the car is a garage kept and rarely driven car its a good choice, but my opinion is that if it sits outside its exposed to the elements more, and by the **** chance some vandal cuts that top while its sitting outside the oem is cheaper.

When I did my top the car was pretty much a daily and I parked it outside, if I were doing it today with the car retired to weekend driving and staying inside I would do cloth.

from what I've seen the replacment vinyl top is about $500. I would suggest buying a vinyl patch kit the appropriate size to patch the tear and be done with it.

I own three Verts. After going around on this subject, the only top I would get is one made by Robbins. The Ebay tops that go for in the $2OO's are crap, most all made by Acme here in Long Beach,CA area.

I would NOT suggest you attempt to install it yourself, and there is very little I wouldn't prefer to install myself into my cars. Labor would be between $200 and 400 around here.

labor is alot, my guy charged me alot less then what another shop wanted, but he said he would not do another one for that price, he charged me $450 10 years ago and the top costs me $500 or so 10 years ago

Another shop wanted to charge me $1500 top and labor.

The price of the robbins top has stayed steady because I think its still selling for what I paid for mine. The only thing I regret is when I did the top the car was my daily and money was tight, I did not go for the new headliner. I would get the headliner to greatly improve the interior of the car.

Well, you could do what I did...find a part-out sale, and just buy the top with the frame and all, then you dont have to worry about all that labor - except your own

with the top down, or targa'd... its just dukes of hazard style. with the top up, u just slide right in. i'm a big guy, so it probably a ton easier for smaller people.
