mazdaverx713b you obviously don't understand that YES these cars were being modded in Japan right after they were released.

No one wants to see your lame stock or modded S4/S5, We want to see pics of the cars in Japan from the early 90's being modded when the cars first came out. There's been so many posts along the way explaining this and yet the next post after is always some douchebag posting up 3-4 bone stock S4's. That's old but it's not old school.
i understand that there was a huge aftermarket for these cars overseas when they were released. i personally dont think stock S4 or S5's are lame. i'm just not into putting on a wing so large that homless people can take refuge under it or put some ugly as sin body kit on my car that decreases my aerodynamics so much that it is equal to that of an apartment building. most people wouldnt have any of that garbage on their 7. but for you to sit there and call a stock RX-7 lame..it makes me want to think that people like you don't even deserve an RX-7 because you don't appreciate the car. people like you should have some respect for originality instead of bitching about what you consider lame and the people that appreciate a stock FC. remember we drive the same car, its just we share different feelings on how we like the car to look. its not like Renton or yourself drive a Neon (God forbid) which, while it has a following of people who like the car is not a true enthusiast's machine. like the old saying goes, you can spice up a pig any way you want but underneath its still a pig. the RX-7 is an enthusiasts car that has so much appeal stock or modified that good people like us can't resist them. try to have a little more respect for the heritage my friend.

If we wanted to see bone stock FC's I'd use google image search, or one of the other polluted threads. Respect for originality? How original is a stock FC?

Essentially not that. If you read my post from the page before you'd have understood not to post.

Ok here's a true old school picture. I took this in 1993, at age 20, of my first Rx-7:

Oh wait, I'm sure that's not "old school" enough. I'm with mazdaverx713b on this topic - for those of us with a driver's license in the late 80's and early 1990's - this is what you saw with these cars. Mostly STOCK, daily drivers.

That's the true "old school".

I think you completely missed his sarcasm.

LOL

You young whipper snappers - you guys DO realize that:

In the early 1990's, these cars weren't that old. People weren't "blinging" them out because they were about the sharpest cars on the road already. We never saw them with "sleepy eye" mods, and the FD car, at least for me, was like a holy **** someday I'll get one of those, but for now it's way out of reach type of cars.

Sure, some people changed the wheels and stuff, but at least here in the midwest and Florida you rarely saw heavily modified FC3's. They were still expensive! 15k for a car in 1990 was a lot! Don't forget about the recession we had in the early 90's.

Yes, the Japanese tuners were already playing around modifying the FCs when they were new as shown in some of the better posts so far.

Racers weren't playing!

Even Mazda's 1985 prototype model of the GTO class race car (final GTO bodywork in pictures above) did not have S4 rubstrips.

A blow to our S4 pride!
