sorry but can't edit..
anyway,
with this i'm thinking of two things. if the a/c works nd i can get it to passs safety i/m stuff, i'm gonna use it as my DD because with 174k. the motor will last about 2 minutes drifting, if that.
i'll use my other one for drifting, and i'll probably do some parts swapping between this and my 87 . like with the 5 lugs and stuff. but we'll see

any comments??

Before you drive off with that car, rip off whatever those bosch signs are? Ew, otherwise for $500 good deal!

i like fog lights usually, but those one's need a little ... i don't know.. less of them..
we'll see. maybe if i can straighten them, i'll definitely get rid of the cases though, they should look o.k. just on there in good position though.
i was a little ??? about the s4 tails. whatever though.
it runs a little rough, but from what i could tell, it's nothing that a good tune up wouldn't be able to fix.
that engine is definitely close to that "in need of a rebuild/replace" time.
that won't come til it dies though, most likely. (or until i get time and money to do it.)
i don't know, there are still a lot of possibilities. we'll see what happens with it in the future.

update:
well, i got an oil change. the thing is running slightly better.
it stopped spitting out white smoke. it doesn't drink coolant.
i'm thinking that the engine may have been rebuilt at some time, i'm trying to get that info.
the only real problems with the car are.
1. Check engine light that goes off when oyu put the gas pedal down, and on when you depress.
2. A wierd idle.
3. Exhaust Leak
4. Rough Acceleration.

Other than that though, the car runs fine.
All the lights and everything works.
I'm getting the recall work done on the seatbelts on monday.
It looks like a keeper.

I'm thinking that the idle, and maybe even the check engine light have to do with an out of wack tps, so i'm gonna do the little check thing tomorrow.

Fix your wheels. Those GXL rims are directional and you have them mismatched. Regardless, nice find!

i never noticed that.hehe.
I'll get that changed.
I got the thing washed a little and i'm gonna buff it out at work tonight so hopefully it'll look really good. the engine bay cleaned up really nice.

I'm really happy to have found it.
It's also funny because earlier in that day I was reading about a bunch of people that got cheap rx7's and i was thinking. "why doesn't that ever happen to me?"
then i saw this on craigslist, and the heavens opened and angels were singing "buy it now!! buy it now!! hallelujah!! buy it now!!!"
and so i did.
i also took the fog light covers off, and it doesn't look too bad now.

i am really sorry for the triple post. i'm really tired of not being able to edit past posts.
but anyway,
another update:
I have been doing a lot of online look up stuff...
i haven't checked the mechanical aspect of the car (lsd, caliper size, etc..)
but this is what i have I think I have a GTUs because of this stuff that i've been researching.
well here i go.

the GTU did not have
Leather Ebrake/ Shift ***/ and Steering Wheel - mine does
GTU/GXL/Conv. only had 150 mph speedo - mine has a 160mph speedo w/out turbo gauge. (so it's not from a turbo)
Only GTU and GTUs had NO rear wiper - mine doesn't either
Only GTU and GTUs had no tilt wheel - mine doesn't either
The GXL and GTU did not have an aluminum hood - I'm pretty sure mine does

so i'm thinking it this way.
it's obviously not t2 or conv.
so we have 3 choices GTU/GXL or GTUs

I don't think it's GTU because mine has
Leather Ebrake handle/ Shift ***/ and Steering Wheel
160mph speedo
mine supposedly has aluminum hood

I don't think it's a GXL because my car doesn't have
Rear Wiper (nor place for it)
Tilt wheel
again with the 150mph speedo which was standard on GXL/GTU/Conv. mine has the 160mph speedo

I still need to check for LSD, and other stuff, but i think I have a GTUs from these little things i've noticed already.
I wish I could figure it out by finding a specific set of vin numbers that were the GTUs, but I can't find a list like that on the internet.

If you have any way of finding out by checking the vin for me that'd be great.

but yeah.. that's pretty much my simple analysis.

what do all of you think?

it's kind of funny, because it looks like one of the previous owners wapped out a few of the things on to his own vehicle most likely. for example. the wheel and tails don't match the year.
if it is a GTUs, hopefully that same owner didn't swap the lsd... that would make me sad.

pretty good deal for the price, but that engine probably won't last that long drifting... If you have another FC, use that one for drifting and this new one for whenever. Or you could rebuild the engine if you have the time or resources.

But still great deal!

If it's a GTUs, AWESOME deal.

If it's a GTU, good deal.

A few observations:
1) S4 tails = possible rear end collision
2) S4 wheels = probably swapped to another 7 by a previous owner
3) S4 air box cover or possibly the entire box is S4 = could be contributing to your rough idle issues

Anyway, good find dude.

I have found out 100% that it is a GTUs
on the little sticker inside the door panel it says that the tire size is 205/55/16
if you look on the 2nd gen standard options thread, it says that in 89 that the only 2 vehicles with that size were the GTUs and the T2
Also, it does have the LSD still, so i'm super happy.

You = win! Get the right wheels and S5 tails, then continue to win.

i'm currently in the process of buying some of those sweet bbs wheels. i so want them.
and i can get used tires for them for free. (used as in 10-15% tread left. but they'd still last about an hour of drifting)
I am also waiting on a good deal for some s5 tails.
they look soooo much better than the s4 ones.
but i'm mostly focusing on getting the car in good running condition so i can it registered and stuff.
that'll require a tune-up. tps adjustment. timing adjustment. and anything else it wants to throw at me.
those seem to be the main things though.
i'm probably gonna go get some plugs tomorrow. (i'm gonna check the ones in it though, because the plug wires seemed new, so the plugs could be good too.)
i already got an oil change, and checked coolant, and that's all good.
i'm gonna change out the oil in the tranny and dif. this week probably. just stuff like that.
i have someone who said he'd help me with the tps though, so hopefully that'll solve a lot of problems.

yeah, i took the covers and it looks fine without em. too bad they don't work though. i'll have to check the wiring.
i think i'll keep them on though, because they leave a lot of open space behind them to keep the brakes cool like those ducts are designed for.
I also like fog lights a lot. so it's fine for me.
