My "new" wheels (and wheel paint "quickie write-up")

I finally painted my wheels. I was going to do a full write-up with pics, but I'm not very thorough and it's really simple. Plus there are already write-ups all over the internet. I would recommend watching this useful video on the Dupli-Color site.

1. Wash wheels.

2. Sand (I used 1000 grit). I couldn't get every nook and cranny, but it seems to be holding up fine.

3. Wash and dry wheels. It's probably a good idea to wipe them with a tack cloth as well.

4. Mask off the tires and valve stem thingy with that green automotive tape. (or you can remove the tires.)

5. Paint. I used Dupli-Color wheel paint and clear coat. I used two cans of each to generously cover all four wheels including the inside of the rim. However, I could probably do another can of clear as it seems I somehow didn't hit the sides of the spokes very well. That area feels rough and gritty. All in all though, I'm pleased with how they came out.

I did this in early april, but I was too busy fixing my idle to care about making a thread for the wheels. Now my car is running and I'm bored, so here's this thread.

Original: not bad, but I was ready for something different to contrast the white paint better. I've never really cared for light silver wheels on white cars. Plus, I think darker wheels look more aggressive. More of a "functional look" than bling. But that's just me.

Now: The graphite is a bit darker than I expected, but It's still nice.

I went cheap with the center caps and used a sharpie:
(wheels are dirty in pic, sorry)

Good question. They came on my car, so I don't know. They are American Racing wheels (17x7 +42), but I couldn't find them on their website. They are probably discontinued. I'm sure you could find some that are similar.

yea ive looked there too. same thing happened to me when i bought mine.

i want 17s because 16 size tires are a bitch to find wide enough for the rear for me. plus the tires i sometimes snag used for drifting/burnouts are getting to be a bitch to get(205/55/16) because almost all cars are 17s anymore so the used tire place has like 200 17s and like 6 16s.

i might grab a set of staggered 17s with similar spoke setup if i can get some fairly cheap or a good deal
