My FC meets signal pole... :(
i can see that amount of damage at a 40mph spin.. if you look at that part of teh car, there is not much support, its all a crumple zone. it was designed to take an impact from the front, not from an awkward angle liek in the pics.
also if a car is moving 40mph and spinning, the ends are moving a lot faster than the car itself. It could happen to anybody, ive had a few spins in rain.. it really happens with no warning sometimes

I was born and raised in Cali. When it doesn't rain for months, then suddenly theres a downpour, the roads can be pretty slick as all that oil and such from the road starts to wash off.
But maybe you were trying to get it a lil sideways? Or have crappy tires?
Either way its a real bummer, the shell is toast. Glad your allright though. If your looking for a quick sedan I would go Subie or EVO if you can afford the payments and such.
The front end is obviously trashed, but maybe you can part out some of the interior? How did the tow end up being so expensive? There is usually a state set limit on how much the drivers can charge for a tow.

I'm going to most likely pick up this jewel for 1,500.

Then I'll have a nice 4 door, then I'll look into a turbo II or FB in a few yrs.

I could only take so much parts out of the car, I dont got a place to put a non working car, so I had to sell it since the towing was 575 dollars, I got 50 dollars for the car (100 if i didnt take some parts)
dude, if you think getting parts for an FC is tough, DO NOT BUY BMW!
If you need an affordable 4 door, get an old buick from some old lady. As long as it's got the 3.8 in it, they are freakin golden.

why would the guy tell us he wrecked his car with a bullshit story? why not just keep that **** to himself if he was ******* around?
sorry for your loss, and im sorry you had to lose it to the yard, those tow fees suck ***** and are really designed for insurance companies, they make a killing off them. I would have really tried to make a deal with them for the car, but from the sounds of the damage it sadly was not really worth much anymore.

You my friend are a ******* idiot!!! Do the whole rotary community a favor and go buy a honda or that bmw, maybe you can keep those under control!!!
Some bs story? Go f'yourself bro.
I don't care why it happened, I'm glad my buddies and the people in the area were fine, I sped up joking much before the corner, slowed down and as far as I can recall I eyeballed the spedo and it was around 40, right after the corner is the signal pole.
I only posted the images for peoples viewing, I don't have a need to make up some story, maybe I did **** up, either way the cars totaled, nobody was injured, and thats all that matters.
Also mr.dickwad, it's a ******* automatic rx7, I only dicked around that would make me loose control in areas where if a cop saw they wouldn't even care, this was a two laneroad thats just no reason to drive stupid since its all straight, wasnt like I was trying to drift with my slow *** automatic fc.
Regardless of if it was my fault or a freak event, my nice rx7 is gone, who the **** are you to be a dick wad?

Point being that it was a waste of a car, the car was in your family for how many years and you were the one smash to the **** out of it. I'd put money on it that it had nothing to do with rain, not that it wasn't raining but that the accident wasn't due to the rain. Looks like someone didn't know how to drive to me. I have seen very similar accidents and they were all driver error.
I'm inclined to give the OP the benefit of the doubt here. We weren't there and can't really know why he wrecked. I'm glad to hear nobody was hurt, though I do agree it is sad to lose a car that has been in the family for so long.
I had an accident in my old S5 NA back in 1990 where I was technically at fault. I was waiting to make a right turn in a parking lot of a grocery store behind an old guy in a Cadillac. He made the right turn then I began to follow him. He slammed on the brakes for absolutely no reason; there was nobody else around anywhere. His car was unscathed and my car had $3000 in damage to the bumper, headlight mechanism, and radiator support. I couldn't have been going more than 10 mph. (The front corners of an FC are surprisingly fragile, so I'm willing to believe the OP's story of how this happened.) I learned an important lesson and I felt like crap for having damaged my beloved 7.
My point is, no reason to make the OP feel any worse than he already does.

As far as the argument over who's fault it is. I don't know, I wasn't there and I didn't see it happen. None of you saw it happen either, so you can't really make these kind of judgements.
Come on, I'm sure cmanns feels like **** already, no need to pour salt in the wounds.
Uh, yeah that was NOT at 40mph, you're not fooling anyone especially when you were in the touge thread talking about getting sideways lol. I've been in similar situations so I know how you feel. Driver mod is the most expensive mod you will do to your car, and no autocrossing doesn't really count 100% because it doesn't teach you to drive with no runoff area, different road conditions and surfaces, no lighting, etc.
I think the BMW is a bad idea unless you find a manual one. You might not want to go back to an FC after that though
E30s are pretty badass. The Buick is a bad idea too, 3.8 is going to give you crappy gas mileage. Buy a Toyota. Good luck either way.

I've been doing emissions testing for about 5 years, I rarely see those fail and you can find them a lot of the times from elderly owners with less than 80k on them. Toyotas are solid too of course, they just run super lean.
No, the point is leave plenty of space between your car and the car in front of you. You have to pay attention when you drive. You can't talk on the cell phone, eat sammiches, wave your hands around to gospel or sip drinks and drive. You might be thinking "I can do those things and drive!" Yes, you can but you can't do those things and be a safe driver. There are a lot of stupid people who can't drive safely and you should be scared of them. Drive defensively because your life and vehicle are at stake.
Obviously that is true. But in all the years of driving, are you saying you've never slipped up? Have you never even had a close call where you've thought "if I'd braked a second later I'd have been in trouble?" We don't know this guy was on the phone or enjoying a "sammich," so why assume he was?
wow...so many douche bags in this thread.
I believe the OP, why you ask?, Its because I seen what happened to him over here countless of times (mostly from jersey drivers that cant drive for ****). If you never drove on a road thats just been hit with rain, there is a high chance you are going to crash if you are going a little too fast.
Hard to visualize for you because you never experience it or probably even know anything about it.
When rain hits the ground, it doesnt just flow off to the side, it puddles up. When it does puddle up, wtf is in the road. Oil, dirt, and other ****. Puddled up dirt and oil will not wash away that quick, especially on a road that doesnt have high volumes of traffic. Thats why you have to drive carefully the first 5-10 mins of raining.
its even worser in sudden downpour then drizzling away in less then 5 mins. More water to mix in with the **** in the road.
Drink more haterade, I think you love it.
