My 88 rx7

Hey guys! i Recently joined the forums and i have been looking for a while for a decent rx7. But i figured i might as well get a blown turbo 2 rx7 and rebuild it.

Just looked at this car April,2 Coming back on april 3rd to pick it up.

It has some quarter panel damage, and the passenger fender is dented up also the door as a crease in it. The fly wing is broken on the mounting points. Needs paint, needs tires and possibly an engine rebuild. Other than that the interior is pretty good for an 88 and all the electrical works except the sunroof and the headlight motors. I payed $1500...

Its the S5 turbo swapped. Has 5 lugs all around, Its a gtu so i think the gtu was LSD if not its mot likely been swapped. Not sure of the rims.. OH it has a fart can too

My Plans...

First off im going to clean it

Find out why it doesnt run, if its fuel related or spark or w/e i will fix it. If it needs a rebuild i will rebuild it.

After i get the engine running or rebuild** i Will get on with the bodywork

Then paint

1 Piece coilovers depending on what funds i have left over.

Front mount intercooler

All broken stuff replaced.

Exhaust

Thats pretty much it.. any recommendations or advice would be great! This is my first rotary, I don't know to much about them. Im sure over time i will tho and it can't be too complicated.

Are you planning to run her hard? I would invest in a wideband that way you can keep an eye on your afr's once you start boosting her.

A wideband is a gauge that measures your air to fuel ratio. A sender that can be mounted in your stock downpipe o2 bung or farther down. Just to make sure you don't lean out and pop your motor

An aem can be had for around $170 however I know many people running the innovate wideband with great results. That one is a bit cheaper I think.

I do have a question tho. In my city you have to go through emissions... Its an 88 so its the last year it has to go through emissions. well It has the s5 Turbo swap with emissions/ smog removed. How do i pass emissions?

Nice pick up, emissions isn't too difficult for us. Just make sure your cats are working properly. I passed with emissions removed with just a new cat and the original airpump hooked up.

Let me know if you want to get rid of that stock lip, I'd be interested in picking that up. I also have a spare set of amber lenses for the front turn signals if you want/need as well.

I had no idea what was really under all this dirt and crap.. this is the day after i got it home.

Only washed and lightly buffed part of the driver side not all of it and seriously only lightly. It will probably turn out even better after i go over it a few more times.

Yeah i was really surprised with the result. All i did was spray 409 and scrubed, then to get the tough stuff off i used super clean " i dont recommend that it can ruin the paint". Then i used a little of turtles hard rubbing compound.

Well good news and bad news. Lets start with the bad news... It has a Bad apex seal in the Front rotor. 90psi in the rear nothing in the front... The good news is, i know whats wrong with it LOL. It wont start at all, it doesnt event try. But i think its not getting fuel o.O bad fuel pump i can here the relay click but no fuel. I'm really worried the housings and rotor are toast ((( What does a bad apex seal usual destroy? Is it possible it just wore down and just has no compression? or cracked and broke and fell out and just hosed the inside? I cant here anything in there when i turn it over.

If its an apex seal that went, it most likely took out the housings and the rotor. Coolant seals on the other hand are soft seals so those won't destroy the rest of your engine. Only way to be sure is to tear her apart!
