The car had blown coolant seals for sure, but had a TON of aftermarket stuff: Yokohama tires, Racing Beat front and rear sway bars w/ adjustable endlinks, (don't remember the brand of) front and rear strut tower bars, Tokico adjustable shocks w/ Racing beat springs front and rear, Custom locally made exhaust, and several other things which I'm sure I'm forgetting.
The strut tower braces are from Corksport, as is the SS braided clutchline

The new set of shifter bushings and corner vents I got from RX7world.com

The headlight safety relay is from Icemark of course

The driveshaft is actually of a low mileage S4 Richard Mitchum had because the original developed a hairline crack along one of the u-joint welds

The endlinks are all Racing Beat's heavy duty adjustables and the brackets where they connect on the front lower control arms are also brand new - the originals cracked and one sheared off during an autocross after the suspension upgrade

The clutch was replaced 3 year ago with ans Exedy Stage II clutch kit

The headlights are Sylvania Silverstars

The battery is an older Optima Redtop (about 5 years ago) from when they still had very good reliabilty

The radiator is the all metal 2-pass rad that Mazdatrix sells

The motor mounts are new - I had them replaced soon after I bought the car

You may wanna pull several things off the old engine - I'll talk to you about all that stuff at the next Starbucks meet, it's very long list of new parts

Saavedro88 you also now have the additional benefit of owning a proven trackworthy car.
I do believe Jon has waved you on in for the VIR Circuitcross, I sorta mentioned it was my old car.
http://www.vadriven.com/forums/showt...=273176&page=2
If you want, this Friday at the meet I'll go over the car with you and point out what they normally check for.

Oh and do check the hood of the red car you bought and see if it's aluminum, the steel hood on the black car is stupidly heavy.

Lol... The Optima was crap and had to be thrown away...

Both of the motor mounts from your motor separated from the top parts when I pulled it...

Are you SURE you'll be there this week???? Lol... I kid... But seriously...

I'm not sure he's totally waved the checkout, but what sort of "rolling rock" does he prefer?

I already did... It's not... I'll have to find one at some point...

Jon just wants to make sure the engines not gonna fall out.
Mainly they'll be checking for wheel berring tightness, secured battery - it needs a tie down of some sort, and your not leaking tons of fluid.
Standard Rolling Rock will be the one, though like he said pizza maybe an easier option for you.

Yeah, they're not that wide, off the top of my head, I wanna say the wheels are 16's... but I'm pretty tired and that may not be correct... And I have no idea what size the tires are...

Well it looks like I'm not gonna make it anyways... 4 spots left as of this morning, and I won't have the money (if I even DO have the money) till Tuesday... I'm pretty bummed, I'm got myself all psyched up for it...

you'll learn more from autocross, it is harder though
but there is more room for error and if you go off course
you're not going to go flying into an embankment, or trees, or the full course, or fences or guard rails
remember this, since VIR is a private course, anything you hit and damage, you pay for, on top of whatever you've done to your car
also should one of your wheels dip off course more than once at VIR, Jon will pull you from the course
Another thing I think we should all go for as a team is the Twilight Kart enduros that NASA put's on at VIR
90 minutes of pulling G's in their super karts.

This.

Whenever I get some money, I'm gonna sign up for a NASA membership... Will I be seeing you race at all this year?

Adjustable!! That's brilliant! Do you know if you can adjust them once they're on the car?
I was looking at Corksport the other day and noticed they have some Mazdaspeed mounts, but I've never heard anything about them... are they any good?

As a general announcement, I've received a LOT of PM's asking me to sell certain parts off of a various FC. As of right now NOTHING is for sale!! Please stop asking me! I will post another announcement in this thread if I do decide I want to sell parts but as of right now, NO! NOTHING IS FOR SALE!!

they should be pretty decent, I thinks basically the oem design with beefier and stiffer materials
the mazdaspeed stuff is usually topnotch quality

I'd keep at least one spare of everything, even the my old motor I'd keep around for that eventual rebuild - drain it and refill with some MMO

And also super-dee-duper expensive... Lol... They're like $600...

Ninja Edit: Well I'm not sure exactly which mounts I was looking at, but I went and looked again just now and they're only like $60... hmm...

Well I figure since most everyone has already seen this thread, it would be a good one to just keep as my general "Questions and Build-up" thread. So here's a question. My future plans for my exhaust setup include a pretty much straight through design. I know this will screw up all backpressure I need for the ports and everything and was looking for a way to go about opening my auxiliary ports remotely. The most desirable option would be of course the electronic route that bshusted designed here: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=rpm+switch
The problem with this is that I'm really not all that handy when it comes to electronics, and I CERTAINLY could not make a circuit board like the one he has. And then I found another mod that seems a bit simpler and maybe even possible for me to do myself! https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/how-air-pump-auxilary-port-activation-330310/
So my question is this: He describes it as a modification for Series 4 FC's, and if I'm remembering correctly, or even have correct info, the S4 air pump is responsible only for pumping air into the converter for emissions purposes. Will this mod hurt anything if I try to do it on my S5?
Thanks for the advice in advance!

Well... if anyone even reads this thread, here some more stuff for you...

I hit a deer last weekend, on the way home from a VA Mazda Club meet at 4 AM.

So far as I can tell, the damage is purely cosmetic, and pretty much isolated to the Pop-up. I can't actually figure out what's bent though that's causing it to stay up so high. I'm waiting for a dry day around here (been raining all week) to take it apart and hopefully fix it.

On another note, Now that I'm out of school, I've got some money to mess around with, and I've been thinking about different mods, and I'd like some input on which way I should go first. Route 1 would be exhaust. I'd like to get the Corksport headers and eventually a test pipe, or high flow cat. I already have a custom cat-back so that's taken care of.
Route 2 would be an Apex'i intake system. I've always preferred them over anything else, and it's a relatively cheap system. The only thing is that if I do either option 1 or 3, I can't afford this as well. It's pretty much a one option for now deal.
Route 3 would be the AutoExe Earth ground system from Corksport. I've been having (what seems to me) some grounding issues. I've cleaned all the grounds I can find, and they're all tight, so I'm not really sure what to do now. Has anyone tried this system? Have they found it to work all right?

Anyways, thanks for the input ahead of time. We'll see what comes up when I actually have a weekend I can use to work on my car...

I really like the way it turned out... As I've mentioned to you, Dave, I really wasn't sure I was going to like it in theory, but I need tires so I tossed 'em on, stepped back... and uttered... "My God..."

All this is good and all... but nobody has input for me???

upgrade the brakes, brakelines, rotors etc...
limited slip diff - I know where you can get one from a GTUs for cheap
silicone coolant hoses off the rad
guages - get an accurate set for coolant temp, oil pressure, oil temp
adjustable camber plates
Corksport header - gut the existing cat, the rest of the catback is 2.5" which is plenty big for an NA
open air element for the intake - build a cold airbox to go with it
RTEK ECU upgrade
