Arrow how much would you pay...

I went to see a 88 vert with a t2 swap today. the guy is asking 1500. but here is what i found.

Body is in great condition. the roof of course needs to be replaced, the interior is covered in some green stuff caused by humidity i guess. the carpet in the back is not there. let me rephrase that, nothing is back there. Interior needs work.

Now the engine, is blown, no turbo on it, no afm or intake. and kind of a mess in there. something that caught my attention was that the manifold looked just like a N/A manifold. Do they look alike ?

Has a t2 tranny and diif. how do i know if this is true?

let me know your thoughts please. to me the car is worth like 800 bux.

No... The Turbo manifold has a Turbo on it.

Did it have the top mount intercooler on it? Or at least the holes for where it would bolt up?

Ouch!

You can tell if it's an NA LIM by looking for 5th/6th port actuator mounting points and control rods.

The T2 trans has a raised area around the drain plug and lots of ribbing, the bottom is also flat.

No FC that will require that much work is worth $1500 OR $800. Possibly $500.

i didnt pay much attention to it, first because of the price he is asking and second it had tires, a hood and all sort of things on it. sort of made me uninterested instantly. but i am pretty sure it was a NA manifold. to answer your question no it didnt have the t2 intercooler or the mounting holes. i will pass by tomorrow again to make sure.

@I fc3SLIDE
@jerd_hambone

I went to see it just because of the engine. i dont want the body as much as the engine itself. i was going to make him an offer just for the engine. but i am starting to think that this was a NA made turbo. no wonder is blown.

Sounds shady, from everything you say. This guy would be better off parting the car out. Pass on it... I am sure there are better deals on Craig's List.

Off subject: airman90, what wheels are those on that car in your sig? (make, size, etc...)

If all you want is a turbo engine, buy one here. They can usually be had for a decent price.

Those are very (cheap) inexpensive chineese wheels that are usually sold at sears stores. I worked at sears in the late 90's and sold them by the boatload. Our cost was like $15 per wheel.

Given that there are a lot of convertibles out there, I think you made a wise decision to pass. You should have better luck finding a clean vert and doing the swap yourself if you want a turbo convertible.

TII diff has more splines on the back and I want to say has the taller case(?)

The trans..well good luck with that one.

The pinion driveshaft mounting face on the TII is also bigger.

Good luck
