Help!!!!

About 2 months ago I bought a 1987 RX7. It run good after I changed the plugs and tuned it up a bit. It had been sitting in a barn for about 2 years. My 16yo son took it to a friends house one night about 2 weeks ago and never made it past the stop sign at the end of our block. It is now sitting in my driveway and I can't get it started. When I try to start it the engine turns over, but won't catch. It just makes a whirring sound. Since I'm new to rotary engines, and know nothing about fuel injected cars, I'm at a lose here. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We got it started by pushing it and popping the clutch. Changed the plugs too as we were misinformed about the type of plugs to use. The guy at the parts store didn't know that a rotary engine took a lead and a trail plug.

BTW I live in Waupun and work in Hartford. I have an 87 named "Kitty". Short for "Kitty Killer!". And my son has an 85 named "Cap'n'Jack" because it was covered in Sparrow **** when we picked it up.
