Gold Rims

been putting this off for way to long.

had to remove old paint the PO painted on.

i was only able to finish one rim today. i have to finish the other 3 i have.

it sucks i dont have the little hub cap things. i only have one that is all there. i have the metal rings for the hub caps but i might as well see if i can get 3 more from somewhere/someone.

i think i did alright for my first attempt at painting a rim.

I was just thinking about doing this with mine, but with black instead of gold. But how rare are these wheels? I don't want to go paint my wheels if they're going to ruin the value or anything. New to FC's.

how rare? well every vert came with them stock. you could probably get a full set for about 300 or so. depends on who is selling them.

they look good black too. i just decided to give the gold a try. as for value i dont think you have to worry about the value of 20 year old rims unless you aim for a fully restored stock vert.

i was worried about the condition of the rims. it was just bent lips so i had a buddy at discount tire bend it back to where it is round.

Thanks. I think I'm going to give it a try. I like the silver center cap as well. My wheels have a bit of curb rash, and I don't really plan on leaving it stock or restoring it, so I'm not too worried about it anymore.

used acetone and water mixed in a big tub to remove old paint and wire brushes. took about 2 or 3 days just sitting there and getting inbetween all the spokes...

i masked off the area of the rim i didnt want to paint with some 1 inch wide masking take and some 1/4 inch masking tape to get the circle part as best i could.

i also put masking tape on the back of the spokes to prevent overspray on to the inside of the rim.

primered it, color spray and clear coated. i have to apply more clearcoat to the one i have completed again. didnt really clear coat the inside of the spokes so im sure thats gonna be hard.

but yea as far as mounting them i dont know when that will happen. i was going to leave the center caps off but damnit they look soo good with them on. i need just part of a center cap and two complete ones and i should be good to go. so im going to get those and hopefully all the rims will look great on the car.

i used rustoleum primer, gold, and clear coat.

Finished! sorta...

Well as y'all can see i finished painting them. I will probably touch them up in the near future but for now they look great.

Now the center caps...

I need all the plastic parts for one of them and I need a center plastic black cap thing that says mazda or they can all say bbs. either way.

So soon I will have pictures of them on the car.

OMG WTF!!! I didn't know i posted the picture that big!. Wow sorry about that. i painted my wheels in about less than 1 min lol. It's spray paint and then i took thinner and whipped the part i didn't want paint on. This was jsut a rough i idea of what i wanted the Gold to look like. I was going to do sti gold, but then decided not to. now im leaning towared 300zx gold (91 z32)
