This is going to sound nuts but can I put 305s on a 9.5 in rim?

That's quite a long shot, 9.5" comes out to 241.3mm, so you'd have like 60mm of tire hanging off the sides. That might be too much to work successfully.

I have my own tire machines at my house and do tires for my own projects and on the side for friends. The Mercury Marauder guys were running 295/45/18s on 18x9.5 rims. A 305 is not too much wider. Will it fit? Yeah. Is it ideal? No the rim is too narrow. I had 305/45/17s on 17x11 wheels and that was the correct width.

People have certainly done worse. Muscle car idiots continue to mount 275 and 295/60/15s on 15x7 steel wheels no matter how many times I tell them it's a bad idea. Looks like a donut

And let's not forget about putting tires 10 sizes too small on rims too wide for the car .

Heh I build american cars so all the dumb asses I see are going the other way, they will spend money on the engine but are too cheap to replace the 30 year old, 15x7 wheels and then fit the widest 15" tire they can buy, on their stock wheels. It happens way more often than not. I guess if you went to a v-dub site you'd see people going the other way and stretching 205s on a 9" rim.

Ok so it will work, just not ideal. I have a guy in town at the porsche place that can get me these michelins all day long for 50 a peice, which is a great deal. Sweet. Thanks guys. Plus you have to keep in mind I wont be running a 60 tire either, more like a 40 or 35 if that.
